Not a spoof, so much as a spinoff. I know that some of you mentioned doing this in the other thread.

RULES:
1. Post the album cover image.
2. 1-word assessment, reagarding the decision to buy: "GOOD" or "BAD"

The Minders - Hooray For Tuesday
Image
GOOD

The Apples In Stereo - Fun Trick Noisemaker
Image
GOOD

Can't think of any bad ones right now, but I know there were a few.

No Neck Blues Band - Sticks and Stones May Break My Bones, But Names Will Never Hurt Me

Not so much for the cover as the entire packaging - its made of wood, velcro and plastic. Pretty interesting.

And, I kind of mentioned it in the other thread, but the cover and the promo sticker on the album got me to buy this one:

The question-probably

The Dwarves-anyone else ever see the Dwarves ? I saw em' after they put out "Thank Heavens for Little Girls" at the Middle East in Boston. What a great 20 minutes that was.

I used to do that, haven't much anymore since you can usually get a sound sample somewhere first. But, I will still pick up vintage albums from thrift shops and such for the great old photos of girls on the covers and other interesting graphics.

I'm pretty sure album covers have accounted for 97% of all Molly Hatchet record sales over the years.

I did my fair share of impulse buying based on covers as a later teen-- I've tended to shy away from that in the past few years. The two I can think of off hand are:

Starsailor - Love Is Here
Image
GOOD
(I realize a lot of people would disagree with that... but the album really resonated with me)

Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot
Image
GOOD.
(For real. I bought this album soon after it came out without reading a single review or knowing a single thing about it just because of the cover. So while I'm a johnny-come-lately to Wilco, I do feel like I earned the status a bit more honestly than other trend-hoppers.)

I got the new Menomena for the cover art (pictures don't really do it justice so I won't bother). It's OK, but I like the cover/overall packaging enough that it was worth the puchase.

Try BRILLIANT! :)

I was really intrigued by the 23 envelope-designed covers for 4AD bands when I was in highschool and pursuing photography and design. The first I bought was the Cocteau Twins e.p. Sunburst and Snowblind.

My older brother picked this one up when it came out on the virtues of the cover. I was like 10. Still love it.
