I almost never get them but I had them for 45 minutes last night.

Wikipedia says you just need to do anything that interrupts your regular flow of breathing. Such as holding your breath, being startled, etc.

My grandmother used to give us a spoonful of brown sugar when we were little and I recall that it worked but I didn't try that yesterday.

I just read a thing in the paper from the "answer guy" that said that if you press right above your eyebrows, right where your sinus passages are, both at the same time, you press on the nerve that is responsible for hiccups and it will stop hiccups cold. I haven't had hiccups to test this, so someone's got to try it and report back.
