A lot has to do with work, although I'm looking presently.

when i got out of college i was miserable and living with my parents for a year. i wanted to get out of dodge and, after talking with a friend who was toiling in school for an eternity, we decided to move to chicago on a whim.

it took awhile to pan out, but things have been pretty good.

I was born here, but went away for college. Went to grad school in San Francisco but failed to find a job afterwards. Led me to move back here. I guess what keeps me here is family plus laziness.

I live in SF because...

1. Family and friends
2. I'm in a moped gang here
3. As far as I know, it's the only city where the mayoral race is between a democrat and a green
4. People are allowed and encouraged to do their own thing
5. The craziness, oh, the craziness...where else do you see a giant group of naked bicyclists of all ages cruising by, and the cops waving at them?
6. AMOEBA (srsly guys)
7. Sucka Free what what!
8. As far as I know, it's the only city where a mayor who legalized gay marriage is considered by many to be too conservative to be the mayor
9. No car needed
10. Every band stops by here on their tour

Love the weather and the people here.

After nearly 15 years now I don't feel the pull of returning to Chitown like I once did.

I love Glasgow. There's lots wrong with it but it's in my blood and it's in my soul. I couldn't possibly live anywhere else. I know just about every inch of it.

When I lived down on the South Coast of England I'd get the bus back to Glasgow from London occassionally and looking out the window all you would see was motorways and flat scrubby fields and depressing towns made out of concrete. This sight would go on and on for hours and hours.

You drive North for 40 minutes from Glasgow and you are in some of the most beautiful scenery in Europe. That's a bit plus point to me these days.

I went to school here, and then went to grad school because my wife wanted to go to grad school here (which she did not do), then a company called and asked me to interview and then we bought a house and then i tied a bag of bricks to my ankle and threw myself into the james river and now i'm stuck. although i do really like the neighborhood, i just like other cities too. I have a feeling that eventually my job will pull me to texas for a stint in a few years.

I've thought about moving someplace different, hell a different part of the country, but after the newness wore off I'd most likely find that I'd miss these things the most:

1) Family and friends
2) the South

Pretty much why I stay and the fact that Atlanta offers everything I could possibly want in a city. (other than good public transit)

I'd have to be making a shitload of money to move somewhere else.
