I live here now because I'm court ordered to live within 100 miles of Grand Rapids, Michigan. But, I'd live here anyway due to my son living here and my wife is from the West Michigan area and my kids (including 2 step kids) are pretty well-established in their school, etc.

Pretty much why I stay and the fact that Atlanta offers everything I could possibly want in a city. (other than good public transit)

I'd have to be making a shitload of money to move somewhere else.

I have more contacts here, therefore I live here. The wife doesn't want to move, and I really like my house, my job and a few of the people I know here. My dad lives close, etc, and I guess I'm not THAT far from ATL (but I still never go there) I think I will end up in DC eventually.

I left a place I'd been living in soley due to work and the amount of money I was making (and my wife was making). We stayed there from 1998-2005 because of it, yet we never were able to stay there. The wife got a buy out and we headed for Asheville NC.

The town is awesome, the weather is awesome, the entertainment is decent (though I wish more bands would swing through here) and we've got 300% more friends than we ever did in Jersey.

So I guess that'd be 'own volition' since you didn't see mention of any kind of overly-rewarding jobs. Work to live, not live to work - that's kinda how I am.

Gig. It's a pretty good town, but it wouldn't take too much to move me if I got a good offer somewhere else that seemed pretty good.

Good move. Ashville is in my top 5 places I'd move to in the South if I moved outta Atlanta.

heh heh. Me too kinda.

...and the fact that I needed a change.

We talk about maybe eventually moving somewhere else together, experience new things, etc.

Leaving my home town was a good thing, even though my rent is now double and I sometimes miss all the good coffee and drinking.

The only reason I've ever moved is for work/school, since the day I left home at 19. I can't imagine choosing a place of my own volition, that sounds like a sweet dream. Nor can I imagine being born, raised and living it all out in a single place. That's kind of cool, but it's also kind of fun to roll around the country too.

Now that I'm a homeowner with a very cheap mortgage, it's a no-brainer to stay. Plus, I have a huge yard for my dogs to run in. The neighbourhood is quiet and the neighbours are nice. While it's not close to work, I'm used to the drive.

One day, after I've renovated the house to make it worth a bit more, I may consider moving. Honestly, though, I'd probably stay in the same general area...maybe a couple of towns over.

i was raised around here and i love it. there are really only 3 places I'd live in the US right now - Seattle, Portland, or San Francisco

love the laid back vibe, the small town feel but with enough stuff to do to keep it interesting, the politics, within an hour of the mountains and an hour and a half of the beach, and even the weather.

Btw, if I could afford it, I'd love to live in San Francisco or Glasgow, Scotland.

world class skiing at my doorstep.
over 300 sunny days/year (second only to san diego).
mild winters.
summers = no humidity + cool nights.
camping/hiking/backpacking some of the largest peaks in the continental US.
laid back, friendly people (this is changing though)
awesome beer.
teh hottest chix of any town i've been to.

all that said, i've grown kinda tired of the boulder "scene". in the past 11 years that i've been here, it has kinda changed from groovy-kind-hippie to nyc-la-trendy-yuppie. which means the restaurants are nicer, but the people are getting lamer. everyone is a carbon copy of each other. 30 year old white male wearing north face driving an audi with their lab in the back and their $3000 road bike on the roof.

I certainly am! Do you know any of the NYC moped army people (mission 23, crosstown kings)?

Moved out here due to husband's job, but we were here during our honeymoon as well. I fell in love with the PacNW almost immediately. I can't imagine living anywhere else now, but never say never.

Summers are awesome
Plethora of fine microbrews available
1.5 hours to beach
1 hour to skiing/winter sports/hiking
3 hours to high desert
Great friends here
Moist weather keeps old folks like me looking young!
No flea/tick problems with dogs
Lots of physical activity and organizations to do said activities
Home of one of the best bookstores on the planet - Powells
Smalltown friendliness with bigger city culture

i know a woman who sports the moped army patch with pride. met her about a month ago at a party, we talked bikes & mopeds & she offered to take me out for a spin one of these weekend nights when it warms up a bit. i think she's got 3 in all, 2 of 'em are motobecanes if i recall correctly.
