My son just came into my office, and asked if I had any Lynyrd Skynyrd. He heard Free Bird on Guitar Hero, and wanted more. Umm... NO.

I sent him away with G'n'R Appetite for Destruction, Nirvana's Nevermind, and Led Zep III.

if you don't let him have "freebird" now, he might grow up to be that guy who asks for "freebird" at shows UNIORONICALLY

Yeah, I have to say it is a damn fine song, especially when you used to watch classic NWA wrestling with the Fabulous Freebirds. I don't think it bothers me as much as Sweet Home Alabama, plus it has a long ass guitar solo.

At least your kid will know why people are yelling "Freebird" at indie shows.

Let's not forget how awesome the 3 guitar sonic assault of Lynyrd Skynyrd really is.

I know this is not a "cool" statement around here, but its not like any of y'all have good taste.

He's been looking through the cds, and is now all excited, because he found a cd with an MC Hammer song on it. Damn if I know what it is... but he is welcome to it.

it's seems lately that guy yelling it usually thinks he's so funny that he yells it over and over again.

I'm pretty sure I've never heard Freebird. Only Skynyrd songs I know are 'Sweet Home Alabama' and 'Tuesday's Gone'.

At some point in your life you must have heard "Gimme Three Steps," "What's Your Name," "That Smell," "Simple Man" or "Gimme Me Back My Bullets."

Even if just in a movie or commercial.

Same here. And MC Hammer, Salt N Pepa, TLC, En Vogue, LL Cool J, and Wrecks N Effect, in addition to classic rock and metal.

Having a wide variety of music gives a kid a chance to figure out what he/she really likes. And there's nothing wrong with "Freebird". That's one of those songs which has been kind of ruined by idiots everywhere when they yell out for it at ridiculous shows, but have you ever come back to it after a few years of avoiding it? Goddamn, that's a good song. I will never disrespect Skynyrd. All hail white trash.

Sorry bud. It was 6:00 AM and I got my early 90's rap/r&b girl groups confused. At least I didn't say SWV or En Vogue

I believe it was Whiney who wrote a big long rant a while back about people who shout "freebird" at concerts. It was really hilarious and well written, diving deep into the mindset of someone who would actually do that. I don't know where this can be found, however.
