Are there any songs you've heard on radio, etc. for years and years without knowing who they were (or being mistaken)?

I JUST found out that "Every Kinda People" is by Robert Palmer. I always thought that was a Boz Scaggs tune. Maybe "Lowdown" is actually a Paul Young song, or somesuch.

Also weird about "Every Kinda People" is it was written by the same guy who wrote Free's "All Right Now."

I didn't know for a long time that 'Be My Lover' was Alice Cooper.

And even though "Fooled Around and Fell in Love" is credited to Elvin Bishop, lead vocals were provided courtesy of Mickey "Starship" Thomas. Yes, the guy who sang "We Built This City" and "Sara."

There used to be an "In Concert" show that our local PBS station used to run Saturday at 11:30-ish, after Doctor Who...one episode had some new wavish band the name of which I never caught that performed a great song called "Murder In New York". I've never been able to track down this song, nor the name of the band. This would have aired circa 1984, figure the concert was taped in the early 80's.

yeah the song i'm referring to sounds like an early 60s, white doo wop tune. which is what is googled and finally found out the group was called the Echoes and they only had that one hit.

also, there are a lot of songs i thought were originals but turned out to be Daniel Johnston covers. the most recent discovery was "tell me now" which i thought was a cub original until i saw the DJ documentary,

Gottdammmm I love that song.
Not even the little factoid above can diminish my love for this song.

Good topic, by the way.
