I saw for the first time some guy riding around on a Segway.

Worse yet, he had one of those Star Trek-like phones hanging inside his right ear.

It took all of my willpower not to run him over.

I took this picture a couple years ago in San Francisco. I figure these dipshits made a shitload of money during the internet boom.

I saw an islander security guard (so by definition, fucking huge) getting around a tiny suburban shopping mall on one of those yesterday.

Nearly laughed right in his face. I don't know how he expected anyone to take him seriously like that. Well, apart from the fact he could crush me with his bare hands, but still

We actually have a Segway dealership here in town. I've ridden them at demos, and yes, they are a lot of fun with the all-terrain wheels on them. That said, I would never pay for one.

What's with the helmets? If you fall off a Segway, you have bigger issues than actually owning one.

Used to see a guy roll up to my local laundromat with one of those. What are they, five or six grand? I'd have baught a washer, dryer, and nice bike, but that's me.

Our security guards at work use 'em sometimes.

....and here I am walking around using my legs.

These are cool but I don't think I could a) fork over the kind of money they ask for or b) get over the fact that people on them look ridiculous.

I been to the inventor's house. Really cool place. He apparently invented a wheelchair that walks up stairs as well.

the segway guided tours do their training across the street from where i work, so i see 10-20 people learning on them pretty often in the summer. it's still ridiculous. and someone thought they'd lead to streets being abandoned in downtowns? ha!

The only time I've ever seen them in Atlanta is at the airport (security) and around the GA Tech campus.

Mostly Techies cruising on them going to their next Magic: The Gathering session.

the working title for that project was "Fred Upstairs" so the working title of the segway was "Ginger" to complete the pair. I always thought that that was cute.

Although the episode of Iconoclasts with him and Isabella Rossalini was a study in awkward, stilted conversation between a (faded) beauty and a nerd.

The mall security guards that work the Circle Center Mall in downtown Indy ride around on these things. I've never been able to figure out why.

I think I'll go crazy if I ever see a Lincoln police officer rolling around dowtown on one of those, especially if it is down one of the bike lanes.
There's no reason most people or a city like Lincoln should fork out money for one around here, the weather is usually too crappy to use it at enough outdoor events.

Seems like the kind of thing that would be good for injured or disabled people. Other than that, it's called laziness. Srsly, you can't walk around? How hard is it, really? It would be funny to see someone riding one of those to the gym.

There was a segment on the daily show a few years back about segways...I can't remember who was doing it (Colbert, perhaps?) and he had some guy show him the segway, and let him ride it. The reporter kept running into everything, and the guy was getting all pissed off, and at the end the guy wanted him to pay for the damage he caused to the segway.

There's a guy (ONE guy to be exact) here in Athens that has been riding one around for a couple years. Always rides on the sidewalk and always is wearing a bike helmet. Looks like an idiot. Always makes me laugh when I see him scoot by the restaurant windows. Also, I think that he should not be allowed to ride on the sidewalks in the downtown district- bikes aren't allowed, and I don't see much difference between the two. (They can both run over pedestrians).
