I generally like this folkier stuff like "Ghost of Tom Joad" and don't care much for the bigger sound like "Born in the U.S.A." That said, I loved Funeral and like what I've heard of the new one so far.

Definately intended as compliments by most folks, if anything. What I hear that reminds me of him is the pacing, some of the chord work, the gravity of it (in the lyrics and the dirge-like phrasing of a few songs). I wasn't looking for it... just popped up in one song.

you nailed it
i went and looked and then did a google translate
"One, two, three, of the black mirror"

i dont know why it bugs me...
seems cheesy as hell to have one line in a different language

they should have a fade out chorus at the end
every language
...
espejo negro
черные зеркала
specchio nero
schwarzer Spiegel
黑色鏡子
etc

then it'd be a good song

it's better when you don't understand.
the smug would say pretentious.
but the fan would think,
mysterious.
mystical.
magical.
::expected::
like when a good dream keeps going.
well,
no.
it's nothing like that.
it's pretty low ranked in comparison

to the last one.

I am pretty hooked on this album. It's hard not to get a little nostalgic for that "funeral" sound, but really this is a lot richer than a funeral pt. 2 would be. I see this having a lot more staying power than that new MM that leaked today (although that is shaping up nicely as well).

My votes:

springsteen influence - aye
church organ good - aye
the chick's newfound singing ability - AYE

It's getting better for me as well, but duties have kept me from giving it enough quality time in headphones. But Black Mirror and Intervention are still killing me.

It's growing on me, but I have to say No Cars go is my favorite right now, which might not be the best thing since it is an old song for them.

I didn't think the french refrain in Black Mirror was that odd or annoying.
I'm not a real big fan of the song that Regine is singing lead on.

Word on ATB. Best song on the album and definitely the most "Springsteeny."

I like this version of No Cars Go better but my main gripe against the EP is that it's horribly underproduced. I would have preferred they had done Headlights Look Like Diamonds, but oh well.

Any of my friends will tell you I'm the biggest Arcade Fire fan they know, but I still wasn't sure for awhile how I felt about this album in comparison to Funeral.

So, today, I listened to Funeral... and about midway through, I sort of lost interest and wanted to hear Neon Bible instead.

But what I'm really waiting for is to hear this stuff done live. That's what pushed Funeral into "Top 5 Albums All-Time" status for me.

Considering they had a song on the last album that was 50% gobbly gook to me, I wasn't surprised by that line in the song. Since I was prepared for something like this, this time around, it didn't seem cheesy to me.

Has anyone else noticed how out this is? I mean, it seems like every blog this side of China has it posted or at least has a link to some place. Damn.

ok, i'm a little late to the party, but what i've heard of the album is good. Intevention had me worried, but black mirror was good, and i just listened to "keep the car running" (damn good tune) and "no cars go", which i will agree, rocks the shit. looking forward to hearing the whole thing on tuesday...

This album has been a grower for me and i love it now. Maybe moreso than Funeral.

Windowstill and My Body is a Cage add a nice change of pace tempo wise and they're fantastic songs.

Love it.

Two listens. I like this better than Funeral.

we'll see how much growing this actually does...i've only listened to it twice and nothing has really hit me that hard. i don't care how much of a grower it is, i can never see myself saying that this is better than Funeral. I don't think they'll over top Neighborhood #1.

which ever girl sings should be kicked out of the band. I don't care who she's married to, those songs are TERRIBLE.
