Scottie Pippen is serious about making an NBA comeback.

Pippen, 41, hasn't played since February 2004, when a left knee injury forced him to retire. But he told reporters Thursday that he wants to return, hopefully to a contender that could make use of his experience in a playoff run.

He said he's in good shape, his knee is fine and he'd even be willing to sign a 10-day contract to prove what he can do.

"I'm not going to be a nonstop high-flyer like I was in my prime," Pippen said. "But I can still run. I can still dunk. But most of all, I know the game."

Pippen is in Las Vegas, where he will take part in the Shooting Stars contest during NBA All-Star weekend. Bulls guard Ben Gordon and Candice Dupree of the WNBA's Chicago Sky will be Pippen's teammates in the contest.

"I'm thinking of trying to come back for the playoffs," Pippen said. "Something like the last two months of the season, somewhere I can come back and play limited minutes to start, play point forward for someone and build toward the playoffs. It's something I've been thinking about for the last three months."

Pippen said he'd like to eventually become an NBA coach and would be willing to apprentice as an assistant as well.

''But I'd like to play first," he said. "I feel I still have a year and a half of basketball left in me if I'm put in the right situation. I'd even be willing to sign a 10-day contract. At least that would be a start. I just want a chance to show that I can still help a team.''

This is a bad idea but he was one of my favorites. Vastly underrated.

Good player but how's he underrated? He made that top 50 players in the history of the nba list after all.

Because when you start the discussion he seems to always get left out, but he's like number 9 all time in every stat.

Never was a big fan.

When he's mentioned I always think of that gruesome knot he had on his forehead from an elbow during a playoff game against either the Knicks or the Heat.

Fucker was the size of a golf ball.

That would be impressive and surprising if true. I looked at the stats though and the only category he's in the top ten in regular season leaders is steals where he's #5. He's in top ten in a number of playoff records which has a lot to do with him being #2 all time in playoff minutes. Not saying that's a bad thing and yeah he was a good player but riding Jordan's coattails has something to do with a lot of those playoff minutes.

At the risk of incurring your wrath even more intensely that usual, I have to vehemently disagree. Probably THE MOST OVERRATED PLAYER IN NBA HISTORY. Holmes didn't do SHIT without Jordan. Of course, I just hate the fucker for refusing to enter a game, but I'm old school like that.

Seriously, though...UNDERrated?!?

while I'm not really a fan, to say he's the most overrated player in NBA history is straight up crazy. It's too crazy for caps, even.

he wasn't even the most overrated person on that team.

I'll admit to some pretty significant exaggeration for effect, but to say he's UNDERrated...wow, just wow. I think he probably deserved to be an All-Star most of the times he was selected, but he definitely does not belong on the 50 greatest list.

Plus, I'm a glutton for abuse at the keyboard of Chase, so this was a prime opportunity to set myself up for the virtual Doc Marten to the nuts we all know is coming.

I have to go out on a limb and agree with FT on this one. A lot of my personal dislike for the man just comes from seeing him courtside at Rockets games. Dude has no class. Plus I agree that without Jordan he wouldn't have had the success he had.
