I got a $25 gift certificate for Amazon and I want to buy a music DVD, either a music video collection, a live concert, or something else if you can think of anything.

So far I am leaning towards either Björk: Greatest Hits - Volumen or Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - God Is in the House.

Anyone have either of these, or have any suggestions for other music DVDs?

i heard something about the nick cave performance just being okay, but it being good for the rest of the videos. i guess that's a possibility if you really like nick cave.

if you don't have the michel gondry or spike jonze director's series dvds, then i'd suggest those as well. or if you like daft punk, then interstella 5555 is amazing. i may have even cried near the end, but don't tell anyone.

I would definitely recommend against the Chris Cunningham one, though - just the videos and a behind-the-scenes thing of "All Is Full Of Love". He's a tremendous talent but, compared to the other 2, that dir. series DVD is AWFUL...

I like the Belle and Sebastian "Fans Only" quite a bit myself and, although I'm not that keen on it, I have friends who swear by the "Slow Century" Pavement DVD...

Then again, you could just go for "This is Spinal Tap", if you don't have it. Nome more loud.

this is like 8 dollars, and offers a pretty good retrospective of their career:

volumen is amazing. i also highly recommend bjork's live dvd from the royal opera house. out of the palm pictures dvds, i actually preferred michel gondry's over chris cunningham's. it includes short movies and a hilarious documentary about michel gondry's life and his works. and there's always "stop making sense" and "the last waltz".

I'm relatively new here, and I don't know what music you're into/not into, but my moniker dictates that I have to at least mention this:

Wire - On The Box: 1979

I think it's absolutely fan-fucking-tastic, but that could just be me. Keep in mind that it is the only "concert" DVD I've ever actually owned.

I'm gonna agree with Ex Lion Tamer

I'll also reccomend Belle & Sebastian's Fans Only

I would think that this would be good, but I don't know your tastes, other than you like Bjork and Cave: Image

Don't really know if it's the place to start as an introduction to Wire, I'd start with one of either Pink Flag or 154, depending on if your tastes run closer to Punk or art rock. "On Returning" is a G-hits compilation from the first three albums and would be another good starting point. I have my own comp I put together and I'd be happy to send it to anyone interested.

Regarding the DVD, it's a little uhhh different. It is a video of a German television show in front of about 100 mostly confused Germans, who look alternatively stunned and disgusted by the whole thing. Strangely though the band seems to feed off of the audiences apathy, in a good way.
