While cleaning out the garage over the weekend I found this in a box:

Image

Even though I hadn't touched it in years, the batteries inside worked right away and effective immediately all work came to a screeching halt as I played consecutive games of Tetris, Centipide, Qix, and Q*Bert.

What were your favorites growing up?

I still have my Game Boy Color somewhere. The only thing I ever had for it is Pokemon Blue, though.

Favorite video games?

Super Mario World was the greatest game of all time in this household. My dad and I would play for hours at a time.

On top of that, I loved the Aladdin for SNES, Tetris for NES, and my friends and I would play one of those WCW wrestling games for the N64 for what felt like three days straight.

Let's see...

Atari:
Empire Strikes Back
Superman
Pac-Man
Asteroids
Missile Command
Breakout

Arcade:
Ms. Pac-Man
Gauntlet
Double Dragon
Golden Axe
Final Fight
Arkanoid

Nintendo:
Legend of Zelda
Super Mario Bros. 2

Gameboy:
Super Mario World
Gargoyle's Quest
Alligator Alley

Genesis:
Aladdin
Echo the Dolphin
Worms
some baseball game I can't remember the name

That's all I can think of right now. I never owned any console after the Atari, so all of these were played at friend's places (or arcades, obvs).

I had an Intellivision but most of the games on it were pretty crappy.

Other than that I've had a NES, SNES, Sega Genesis, PS1 and 2.

I finally beat Super Punch-Out last year when one of my roommates bought a SNES. It was pretty addicting and is probably my fave.

Some of my favorites were:
Metroid
Zelda
Kid Icarus
Castlevania
Contra
Earthworm Jim
Mortal Kombat 2
Dragon's Lair
The Lost Vikings
NBA Jam
Track And Field
Street Fighter 2
Jungle Strike
Killer Instinct
Ninja Gaiden
Burger Time
Samurai Showdown
Smash TV

I hate Super Ghouls & Ghosts. It's probably the most impossible game ever.

haha Custer's Revenge

Oh yeah, the Metroid for Gameboy was pretty awesome.

Super Tecmo Bowl

original Tekken
Super Mario Kart

I fizzled on video games around age 14.

I feel like I was born at just the right time because I remember when all of the first arcade games started to come out. For the home we had PONG!, an Atari 2600, then a line-graphic stand-alone game called Vectrex. Good times.

When I saw a Space Invaders game in a restaurant (1978 maybe?) I was completely flabbergasted. The local 7-Eleven soon had Tempest and Pac-Man and I used to walk a mile every day to play a couple of games and drink a Slurpee.

Later in the arcades I spent many, many quarters playing Punch-Out!

A few I can think of off the top of my head...

Arcade:
Street Fighter
Virtua Fighter
Super Off-Road

NES:
Tecmo Superbowl
Roger Clemens Baseball
F-15 Strike Eagle

Super NES:
Super Mario World
Top Gear (1 and 2)
NHLPA 93
Mario Kart

I know it may sound corny, but Mario Kart and Mario Kart 64 were the only games that I ever really proclaimed myself a "master" at. My freshman year of college one of the computer clubs organized a big MK 64 tournament on campus with about 55 people showing up. And I won.

Might be my favorite.

I had an Atari 2600, Atari 64*, NES, SNES, Gameboy & Sega Gamegear as far as old school systems go.

*This was a wierd computer/game system thing that I actually had some pretty fun games for, like Hardball and Karateka.

The SNES might have been my favorite system overall. Just a ton of great games, and I remember playing a lot of NBA Live 95 with 5 people at once, one person playing each position on the same team. It was actually really hard to play that way, but it was fun.

I've wanted to try this, but it's always been too intimidating.

I guess so. I didn't mean intimidating. I've just never been able to download an emulator and a game I want to emulate and get it to work on my computer.

There's a place out there that has a billion or so NES games you can play in your browser. I was rocking some Ice Hockey a few weeks back. Not that NHLPA crap either, the old game with the fat guys, skinny guys & medium guys.

Never had a NES. I guess that's my problem. The games I want to emulate are either Sega Master System, Genesis, or Commodore 64.
