you know what i never got an answer on and i asked plenty of times when my kid was on the way is this: how did america get on the circumcision train? i wouldn't say that other aspects of jewish culture have been as readily embraced. jews doing something almost never makes it cool.

People brag about not being circumcised?

Has there ever been a circumcised adult in the history of the world who's had the thought "Man, I wish I could get my foreskin back".

I was actually talking to a prospective parent a few weeks ago who was conflicted on this matter. I offered my totally uneducated opinion that no one ever regrets being circumcised. Some guys, however, decide they want to later in life, and that can't be a pleasant experience.

If memory serves, circumcision didn't really pick up in the ol' U.S. of A. until the late 19th century when guys like the Kellogg brothers were discouraging masturbation and trying to get people right with corn flakes and enemas. I think the thinking was that the foreskin made your hangdown more sensitive, so if we started lopping it off then you would be less tempted to yank on it and suffer all of the horrible health consequences.
