Circumcism, like most Jewish customs regarding the person, originally had to do with keeping people healthy and free from infection, disease, bacteria, etc., in times when the average person didn't know what actually caused diseases, infections, etc.

I'm of the mindset that's why God wanted them enforced.

But if you're one who believes God to be a figment, think of it as customs and laws developed to protect a people, laws which eventually transcended practicality and become ways of life.

My roommate freshman year did. Not only that, he tried to make fun of me for being circumcised. I just started to call him "dog dick".

so as a doctor in training, you're going against the hard scientific data and with the "repressed resentment" crew?

A lot of those customs originated in hot countries.. where you are more prone to infection. so circumcision, and not eating pork, made sense for practical reasons.

I was suprised to hear that about half the boys born nowadays dont get circed at birth. That seems like a lot.

Despite the spooky 60% number, your chances of getting HIV/AIDS is still far more influenced by behavior than foreskin. I am circumcised, but I think it's a silly cosmetic practice.

I think it's an unnecessary procedure and that it's weird to snip off a piece of a newborn baby with a sharp instrument.
