One of the things that scares me about moving to SF is the Mexican food. Everyone I know that did the So Cal to Nor Cal switch complained about the Mexican food.

I just have this image of me spending a few years of eating nothing but Trader Joe's Mac n Cheese & sandwiches from Submarine Center

then you are crazy. is mexican food the only type of food you eat? come on, this is fucking san francisco, not omaha.

I'm not sure if they have calfornia burritos up there. I can't remember. Aural, are french fries okay in burritos?

French fries? Yup, being that they're potatoes. My local fave Mexican stand sells Carne Asada Fries. Carne Asada over fries loaded with cheese and guac.

Jesus. Focus people!

So yeah, left the house this morning at 6:45am to catch my flight and I get to the counter to find that our travel dept. booked me on the 8:38...............................PM FLIGHT!

I'm still in Atlanta. I go back tonight and don't get into San Fran until 11:15pm. Garbage. A whole day of nothing to do in San Fran down the tubes.

So, sorry fancypants, looks like I won't be able to meet up for a drink tonight .

This blows. What's worse is that I think it's pretty out there today and there's a call for rain tomorrow.

guh.

Dude, you don't even know what a fuckin' gorgeous day it is here in SoCal today. I can only imagine it's the same up in SF. A shame that you're idiot Travel Dept doesn't know how to book flights properly -- sheesh!

Well, two nights in SB isn't too bad. Drop by the Superica on the eastside (near to a crazy man and his va-funded record shop, incidentally). Insanely good, crazy cheap mexican. Though low on the hot UCSB undergrad metric... gotta eat in IV for that, never a tasty proposition. Choices, man.

That's alright, I'm sick as a dog anyway. I even have to miss a roller skating prom tonight, FUCK!

And Aural is totally right -- rice in burritos is lame, and french fries is awesome. All shall bow before the california burrito -- carne asada + french fries + salsa.

Exactly. I'll end up paying $9 for an organic burrito with kiwi salsa & righteous indignation green sauce that the 7x7 crowd slops up when all I want is something cheap, easy & good, which is practically on every corner in LA County. Everybody I know has a different favorite Mexican place in LA. All I'm saying is that multiple people I grew up with who made the move warned me about the lack of mexican food compared to LA. I couldn't be looking more foward to the weather & the idea of living in a real metroplis. But I'm gonna miss my So Cal mexican cuisine

Dude, the Joyce is full of grad students. Who are not without charm, but it's a different sort of charm. See if you can get someone to point you to Elsies (head west from the CA Pizza kitchen, unmarked storefront on the left) for a good drinking environment. Third choice: Press Room.

Umm, the big place with pool on the third floor, forget the name but one of the taller buildings on lower state, south of the Joyce, usually has lots of cute folk.

Remember for all directions that in SB the ocean is south.

And you may as well tell bike shop Dave I said howdy.

Maybe there isn't as much good mexican food as LA, but you're not going to be stuck with overpriced vegetarian hipster bullshit. There's plenty of cheap and good Mexican food there, regardless of what people say.

Pop Levi is a cyclist too?

My plans for saturday night fell through. So if everyone is stilll planning on going to that Pop Levi show, I'm game for that. If there's a pre show meet up for drinks, dinner, amoeba or whatever, I'm probably game for that too.

UPDATE FROM THE ROAD:

So apparently this is where Manifest Destiny.....uh.....manifested itself. Cali has been kick ass so far.

San Fran was great. Openly got lost on a Vespa-esque scooter somewhere near the Haight and wrecked it around Castro and Market streets. Seriously. Drove around 20 miles in the city completely lost and ate it in the middle of an intersection.

Got completely shitfaced in the Mission at LunaPark (Thanks Fancypants, great joint) and some bar called The Buccaneer or something.

Horrible hangover gave way to a great day in Santa Rosa. Cool, quaint town.

Sacremento was okay but kinda lame also. Saw the Governator and the Boston Celtics (I was randomly walking back to my hotel and the whole team came out to get on their bus to go play the Kings). Drank some local Brew.

I'm in San Jose right now and have been drinking free beer for a few hours now. (Horrible Coors Light is the offical beer sponsor of the Tour but fuck, it's free). Heading down the PCH tomorrow morning. Really looking forward to that.

I've realized why bands break up so much. I would kill someone if I had to do a 10 month tour in a Van. KILL THEM. I'm out here 4 days so far and folks are on my nerves. It's no wonder bands use alcohol as a crutch.

I still don't know what I'm going to do about getting around when I get to LA. I will be coming in around 5 or 6 pm on Saturday. I know I'm going to either have to have someone drop me off near the Pop Levi venue or figure out how to get there from Long Beach. I'll have 4 people with me and one van and they'll all want to do their own thing.

So if anyone can come get me or give me a suggestion I'd appreciate it.

I'd be willing to take a 20-25 dollar cab ride to get as close to you as I can.

If anyone can help, let me know and I'll PM you my cell phone.

I won't be around a computer until tomorrow to get back to you though and then for only a little bit.

LA has tasted Rick Derris and he was good. Who could ask for a more adorable and charming lad? Dri and I formed an instant crush! And I'm thinkin' that it's quite possible that Billy G has a male crush on him too!

Thanks to Derris and Biggs (his coworker and partner in crime) who took the time to come out and meet some of the LA crew! What a great time we had! Ben, we'll be right here waiting for you in a year's time when you decide to make that move to LA. We loved having you! Hurry back soon!

Safe journey home.

Who doesn't have a crush on Derris? The Boy is a rock star of the highest order.

I *HOPE* you were all as drunk as you sounded when you called me at 2:33am CST!

I could barely make out a "LLLLOOOOOGGG!!!"" and a "HEY DAAAAVVEEE!!"

And then Derris slobbered into the phone about manifest destiny, cutting my pimp's heart out and how much of a schmuck I am these days.

Classic Take.
