So, a friend of mine knows Devendra and he asked him these questions, and I had intended on posting them on my website until I read the dumb questions that were asked. Who knows though, I still might put it up at some point. In the meantime, here's an exclusive interview with a super talented hippy weirdo:
Happy Home always had it in for the Go-betweens, but
recently heard the LIBERTY BELLE AND THE BLACK DIAMOND
EXPRESS, and really enjoyed it. When is the last time
your preconceptions about a particular artist were
completely changed upon hearing or seeing them?
DB:well, this sounds real funny i know but , you see i grew up hearing
that ohh ohhh here she comes maneater song and thinking Hall and Oats , aw man thats some lady of the night moms toyota soupdragon sorta bum night stuff you know but recently i bought one of their greatest hits cause i just got a record player but no records where i now live and so i had to buy it at the antique shop next to my pad and HOLY SHIT! RICH GIRL??? AMAMAMAZING! then i hear Nina Simones and really fucks me up ! these cats had Nina Simone digging their stuff! , and now i do too!
We have a drumming uncle and a poet in our clan, does
anyone in your family have a particular artistic
talent?
DB:well , my uncle is good at having familes, he has three separate
families that have never met , once one of his wives saw the other and it was a big fiasco but other than that he keeps everyone cool!
The Happy Home christmas party featured Lobster
thermador, duck confit, and rolos. What is the last
great meal you had?
DB:Mexican New Years , it wasnt just the food! the margaritas , Mi Vida
Loca , and Boo Ya Tribes first album helped!
We have always had nice thoughts about Washington DC.
What city you have visited do you find yourself
daydreaming about moving to?
DB:Mexico City , 1956 , i am a young local boy named Jerizio , i am taken
in by a handsome white buisness man who looks just like Jamie Stewart from Xiu Xiu, he takes me home and a family follows.
The Happy Home laundress supports a policy of once
every three weeks. How often do you wash your jeans?
DB:oh i jam with my friends when they are around , just jam you know ,
play whatever you want , it can go on for hours!
We were extremely reticent to get fax machine here at
the home office. Are there any technological advances
you are resistant to? Have you come around on
anything?
DB:yeah fax machine , im really into those guys , so handy! theyer like
Ipods but better!
