The same reason Duk Koo Kim didn't ask for a rematch with Boom-Boom Mancini.

Probably because people around here are assholes?

I don't know the exact reason or event (if there was one) but just a guess.

My guess is she got tired of coming here and getting pummeled to death. She took quite a bit of abuse from certain Obnish, so I would imagine she finally decided it wasn't worth putting up with anymore.

Agreed, she was rather browbeaten. And even though she was a pretty hippy-dippy in comparison to the general populace here, it's not like that's a huge sin.

While we're on the subject of AWOL Obnish, let me restate your query of a few weeks ago: "Where the fuck is Monty?"

I'm as guilty of this as anyone much of the time, as you can personally attest to. Having a laugh at someone else's expense is easy, and I'm often too lazy to come up with something better.

One of the best things about the old CMJ board and the early days of Obner is we were a lot friendlier and more accepting. Our insatiable thirst for a laugh at any price has turned this into a pretty mean-spirited place more often than not.

And I had more than a small role in triggering that unfortunate transformation.

Nonsense. The thread quality on Obner has gone way the fuck down-hill. This precipitates folks either leaving because the fare is so gdf stultifying, or getting fed up and lashing out.

You want a safe audience that will embrace your piss-poor music collection or that will fawn over whatever dull-assed thread you start, or turn a blind eye and give you a shoulder to cry over your inability to craft a proper english sentence??? Then join a support group--if you can't handle a bit of rough and tumble with opinionated grownups, then stay in the kiddie pool.

My intent isn't to lecture or chastise others, so much as take a look at myself in the mirror and maybe start holding myself to a higher standard. This thread really got me thinking along these lines. Having been picked on so much as a kid (big shock, I know), I'm extra-sensitive to when it happens to others, yet also tend to be one of the first to join the bully mob. I guess it's similar to that whole theory about kids who were beaten by their parents growing up to beat their own kids.

I mean, it's one thing for those of us who enjoy it to go around kicking each other in the nuts for fun. LooGAR takes shots at Bloor, Bloor takes shots back at LooGAR, etc. But we cross the line when we gang up on people who aren't fighting back. DayStar had her quirks, to be sure, but she was a sweet kid who had no interest in exchanging verbal punches. It's just kind of a shame that we had to chase her off.

No doubt, Bob, but did you consider the fact that she might (gulp) have a life? And doesn't feel the need to post anymore on the board like us losers?

I understand where you're coming from, Billz. It's definitely a fine line. I guess it's really just a matter of dialing down the vitriol a couple of notches. Giving someone a hard time for starting a lame thread is one thing, but eviscerating them is probably a bit extreme.

If that were the case, I think it would more likely manifest itself in the form of far fewer posts, rather than a complete evacuation. DayStar's really just one example, though. It just seems like the whole tone of Obner has changed compared to a year or two ago.

Yeah! What's the point in just ignoring a thread about an album you don't like when you could go shit all over it and make fun of anyone who does like it instead?

Hmm, I'm not so sure. Katie and Charli used to post a lot too, but I think they just have bigger and better things to worry about these days. As for the change on the board from 2 years ago... I think with the proliferation of everyone and their special blogs, people "growing up" (which means more responsibility at work or whatever and less time to post), and -- I know I'm gonna get pummeled for this -- the lack of truly interesting and intelligent exchanges on music, a lot of people are bored. Personally, I still love all you guys to death and you're still a part of my daily regimen whether I read all the new posts or not. Also, not to beat a dead horse here, but there are some pretty interesting musical conversations that go on in chatzy too, and in my humble opinion, a lot of the more interesting posters and contributers to obner have moved to that arena. Just my .02.

Although I do love to read rants from Konstantin on obner. Don't stop, D... keep the dream alive! ;)
