Not sure what is going on with my creative labs mp3 player, but i have a growing suspicion it may have crapped out on me....Worst case scenario, and it is dead, I think I am gonna join the masses and go the ipod route...

My question is: All the hoopla with the bad battery problems that plagued earlier models....Have they fixed this?? Do the batteries still die rather quickly? Is it still 100 bux to replace?

I remember this causing an uproar a while back...

Is it safe now to jump on the Apple bandwagon?
Inquiring minds want to know.

Thanks

I have a G4 and love it. I bet I get closer to 10 hrs of battery life, though, but it's hard to say b/c I've never really bothered to test it.

I had a Creative Zen before my iPod, and the iPod is so much better. I hated that crappy wheel thingy and my cover would always come off. And the iPod's interface and controls just makes more sense to me.

I know a lot of people with ipods, myself included. we've all had our ipods for some time now (1 year+) and no battery problems. apple's last upgrade on the standard ipods upped the batter life from 8 to 12 hours, which is pretty good...

I haven't had a problem with mine battery-power wise, but it's been pausing a lot. I heard this might be the hard drive getting scratched - which has me freaking out. Does anyone have any info on this / how to stop it from happening? Thanks...

The only "problem" I have encountered with mine is that sometimes it says that it is fully charged when it isn't. Like, I'll charge it by plugging it into the wall until it says "charged", then later I will plug it into my computer to upload music and it will say "charging". I don't know why it does this, though it's not really a big deal. It seems like the battery doesn't last as long as apple says, but I guess that's to be expected.

If you get an ipod, I suggest doing what I did -- load all the albums you have bought in the past few years that you only listened to once or twice and never really gave a fair chance to, and put it on shuffle. I did this with some albums by New Order, Grandaddy, Don Cab, Jejune, and Interpol (among others), and discovered a bunch of tracks that I really dig.

I've had my G3 for about a year with no battery problems, and the new ones have better battery life. GO FOR IT!

I use my G4 iPod at work daily, all day. I have yet to see it get below half at work. And currently it is running through some Klipsch Pro Media Speakers with 75w Sub ($149 at the Apple Store). It sounds amazing in the office, and to think i could take it anywhere, while carrying the whole lot under my arm is crazy.

GET an iPod and quit fooling around with the imitators.

Well, Im not overwhelmed by the positive remarks as well as not being totally scared off by the negaitve ones either....

I guess that comes with any player.. Pro's and con's.

Im gonna try and figure out a solution to mine this weekend, before I make a jump...

But, I think i see a 40gb model in my near future.

I've got a 20 Gig ipod and I've never had a problem with the battery, I can go all day at work no problem.

The only issue I've ever had is with buffer memory for large files/songs. Too many large files will cause a brief freeze up. I noticed this when I encoded Blueberry Boat too high and most of the files were approaching 20 MBs, I got about a third of the way through the album and it crapped out. Once I reencoded at a lower bit rate (VBR) I haven't had an problem with it or any others, even Sister Ray which was pretty big at over 17 min long.

you know the battery is super-easy to replace, right? i mean, yeah, it voids the warrenty (sp) but if you're outside the it anyway then you've got nothing to lose.

i've replaced the drive on my 2G ipod, too, from 20gb to 30gb and the only bad part was that I had to reformat it.

I got mine working somewhat.

I opened it up, took the battery out, then put it back in, and it turned on....

Tested it a few times, and I had to repeat that procedure once, but now it seems to back to normal....

which is good cause it saves me several hundred dollars..Iwas going 40gig IPOD...

but, sucks, cause i spent a good 36 hours researching opinions on the ipod, and almost had myself convinced that i wanted one...I was getting pumped to going to the store for it.

Yeh, I think I'm just going to tolerate my current model until the 80G comes out later this year.

if you want an ipod, get one....

go for the 20gig....its big enough......cheaper than the 40 or 60.....

i look at it this way....i have more than 40 or 60 gig of music on my hard drive......i would have to do some swaping once and a while.... and if i didnt, i would be pretty damn dissapointed.......

dunno about the states (which gets a slightly inferior version of h340 anyway) but iriver's are more expensive almost everywhere. or so i think.

but yeah both great. ipods just too faggy looking and inferior in functionality if you ask me. i bet a fag designed it. those damn fags.
