It's different peoples' reactions to what I'll call "Pretend-Heavy" material that seems to define reactions to her (and all things Ticklebear). Those who are more apt to suspend belief and get into the more "fantastic" elements of art seem to not mind her, or even embrace her. And those who can't, don't.

Just an observation. (An observation spawned by her wearing a hat with deer legs hanging off it.)

Sure, and those who really do call it Truly-Heavy.

By "pretend-heavy" I was actually trying to convey the idea that enjoying it depends heavily on one's ability to pretend, not that it is "make-believe heavy." Apologies.

She makes me think of a female version of the band Jethro Tull.

And not in a good way.

Why is this still going on?

I mean no one's winning here. Some people love her, some of us hate her.

Who cares. It shouldn't be an argument five pages long.

A simple poll would have solved all this long ago.

Hey yeah another act that didn't just sing about wizards and dragons even though people say they did.

I think the reason me, frosted, Haq, etc. are getting in a huff is because many people in this thread outright admit that their hatred of her has nothing to do with the actual music. It's because of her physical appearance or her song titles or the instruments she plays. And that's not really fair. By all means, feel free to ignore or not listen to someone if all that really bothers you that much. But to outright hate the artist because of that and vocally abuse anyone who does like the artist's actual music is ridiculous.

If any of us were to do the same thing to any of their favorite artists, they'd get pissed off.

I think you need to sign up for loogar's reading comprehension class. We dislike the music, the vocals, the lyrics, and her image -- pretty much everything about her. The elfin appearance, the harp playing, and song titles, and fantasy-like imagery are just the lolworthy low hanging fruit.

We don't give Devendra Barnhardt, Animal Collective or any of the other worthless freakfolk artists a pass. Some of them are indeed worse than Newsom. But you don't seem to go around making long threads about them comparing them to Dylan, Joni Mitchell and Emmylou Harris so there's really no need to call them hacks that'll be forgotten in five years.

And really i couldn't care less about what you think about my favorite artists.

I also don't recall being in a huff, explictly stated I understand why some people don't like her and only used the Joni comparison regarding types of criticism they've had to undergo vs. longevity of careers. Obviously Joni and Joanna are nothing alike. Any Gar Academy graduate could see what my point was.

Again I point out almost everything I post is done conversationally, not emotionally.

Huffs are rare anymore, at least non-facetious ones. Plus there's the fistfuls of tranqs and booze and whatnot.

1-10: 3

"thumb ring" does not begin with a "c"
