So I was walking up to the university library to hand in some books. A helicopter was swooping around quite low but I didn't think much of it because the Heliport is quite near and they often fly over his area.

But then when I got to the library I saw a crowd gathering just beyond the library on Hillhead Street. When I got closer I saw most of the street had been cordoned off with tape and parked police cars and there was police everywhere.

I recognised a guy in the crowd from my Classics class and he told me there was supposed to have been a bank robbery and the police had cornered the robbers in one of the buildings down the street.

I managed to barge my way to the front to get the best view. The cordon was only about 250 yards from where all the action was happening. I could see heavily armoured police with machine guns scurrying around taking cover behind hedges and walls. I could also see one standing behind a car with a sniper rifle resting on the roof and trained on a building. Who knew going to the library was such fun!

The increasing swelling crowd of students was getting quite giddy with the excitement of seeing a gun battle in the street. We were having a great laugh. The best bit was when a guy from the cordoned area of the street came out his flat and was rather shocked to see a phalanx of armed police and a large crowd pointing and laughing at him. The poor man was escorted behind the cordon by armed officers where the crowd mercilessly took the piss out of him. "Can I play you in the re-enactment?" one shouted. "silly man turning right!". How we guffed. You probably had to be there.

By this time the crowd was getting very boisterous except when the radios of the policemen guarding the cordon went off. Then everyone went "shhh!!! shhhh!!! shhhh!" so we could hear the radio. In fact things go so rowdy the police commander came over to tell us to shut up.

But a quiet awe didn't descend until a man with a light coloured jacket and jeans came out of the building. All the girls hugged one another and said things like "Oh my god!". All the guys, grinned like ninnies and crossed their fingers for a machine gun battle. He had his hands up and came out R E A L L Y slowly. He stood still for a moment and then did a spin round like a fashion model presumably at the request of the police who had about 15 rifles aimmed at him.

Then he came out on to the middle of the road and got down on his knees. Two sets of police came out from behind cars in a flanking movement. They had big helmets on sort of like motorcycle helmets (but without the visor) and heavy body armour with tons of gear hanging off it. One of them had a dog on a short leash. One aimmed his weapon at the mans head and one went behind him also pointing his MP5 at his head and restrained him.

After that the police got quite cross with us and moved us further down the street about a hundred yards beyond a hump in the road so we couldn't really see anything. That and a heavy downburst of rain dispersed the crowd and I headed home.

Still one of the more exciting Tuesday mornings I've had recently - that despite the fact that no shots were traded.

Just watched the news and apparently the whole thing was a fuck up.

The robbers got away while the police were arresting a homeless guy who was later released without charge.

Nice one Glasgow police. Seriously, Police Chief Wiggum would rise up the ranks of the police over here on a fast track.

haha. awesome. They probably gave the homeless dude all sorts of cash to go get arrested that he has stashed in some garbage bin in Glasgow.

Damn, what a plot twist.

The other day I saw a cop try to pull over some guy, but the guy just kept on going. Cop follows him through a couple of lights and the guy still doesnt pull over. I was about to turn right, they were going left, and another cop car came from the other direction to tag up with the other cop. It was like watching the birth of a high speed chace. I don't think it got to that, though, because I never saw anything on the news. Should have followed them.

You should have yelled "He has a gun" and watched the action unfold

niiiice. But they'll blame "the kids" for distraction prolly.

I was at a light the other night, and a cop car was in front of me. He stopped at the light, next thing I know he's jumping out of his car, pulls his gun on a guy walking down the street with a stick and is telling him to get on the ground. Within instants, 4 more cars come roaring up. Needless to say, as soon as the light turned green, I went.

So much drama in bank robberies. That is why I'm planning my heist of 'knocking over' multiple vending machines. Crime pays in quarters.

If you had videotaped this, you could have made that guy a few million dollars.
