From rotoworld.com:

The Boston Herald's Michael Felger reports that the Packers and Raiders are "on the verge" of announcing a trade that will send Randy Moss to the Packers.

It's odd a Boston writer is breaking the story, but he's also an ESPN radio host. We heard rumblings Wednesday night it was close and profootballtalk.com pegged most of these details days go. The deal will reportedly include Aaron Rodgers, Raiders TE Courtney Anderson, and a conditional Oakland pick in 2009 based on Rodgers' production. Moss will reportedly restructure his deal to catch passes from Brett Favre. While this will help Moss' numbers, don't assume either Favre or he will be elite fantasy starters. Rodgers' presence makes it more likely, though far from certain, that Oakland will draft Calvin Johnson with the first overall pick. Donald Driver and Greg Jennings owners can't be happy.

from the green bay press-gazette:

Report: Packers on verge of trade for Moss

Press-Gazette

The Green Bay Packers are close to completing a trade that would send backup quarterback Aaron Rodgers and a draft pick to the Oakland Raiders for receiver Randy Moss, another player and a conditional draft pick, the Boston Herald reported today, quoting a source in Wisconsin.

Ted Thompson, the Packers' general manager, was said to be traveling and unavailable for comment at mid-morning.

Moss has agreed to restructure his contract, which is to pay him $20 million in base salary over the next two years, the source told the Herald's Michael Felger.

The trade, which reportedly could be announced as soon as Friday, is structured this way, the source told the Herald:

The Packers would get Moss, tight end Courtney Anderson and a conditional pick in the 2009 draft that would be based on how well Rodgers plays for the Raiders in 2007 and 2008.

The Raiders would get Rodgers and a seventh-round pick in 2008

so who is the quarterback of the future if they're getting rid of this rodgers kid?

now they just need to sign TO and the dream will be complete.

doubtful, it's more probable they'll sign someone who'll be serviceable behind #4. rodgers was an easy choice when he was selected a few yrs. ago, but hasn't really shown much in 3 camps. plus, when favre got injured against the pats last season, and rodgers came in, his foot was broken immediately -- favre, of course, started the following week to extend his ironman record.

I love this trade for the raiders. get rid of moss, get a decent QB prospect and johnson (the best player in the draft). Russell looks like a megastar however. The Raiders would find a way to screw him up, I bet, though

The Packers aren't interested in playing Moss....they just want to make sure that no one else plays Moss against them. He used to light up the Packers something fierce.

It will be odd to see....like when Jim McMahon (a forever Bear) played for the Vikings.

here's the latest:

Thompson: Moss trade talk is 'wild speculation'

By Rob Demovsky
rdemovsk@greenbaypressgazette.com

Ted Thompson, the Green Bay Packers’ general manager, this afternoon dismissed a report that a trade to acquire receiver Randy Moss from the Oakland Raiders was imminent, saying it was nothing more than “wild speculation.”

In a statement released by the team’s public relations department, Thompson said: “We dismiss this report as wild speculation.”

Bob Harlan, the Packers’ chairman and CEO, said this morning he was unaware of a Boston Herald report that quoted “a Wisconsin source” as saying the Packers and Raiders are on the verge of announcing a trade that would send Moss to the Packers for backup quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

Harlan said he had not spoken with Thompson since the GM left for a scouting trip on Tuesday afternoon.

“If (a trade) was that close, (Thompson) would have called us by now,” Harlan said.
Thompson presented his monthly report to the Packers’ board of directors during its regular meeting on Tuesday morning and then left town. He is not scheduled to return until Friday night.

The subject of Moss came up during Tuesday’s meeting, but Thompson didn’t indicate a deal was about to be made.

“No, not at all,” Harlan said. “And he would have told that group if it was that close.”

The trade, according to the Herald’s source, would have the Packers sending Rodgers and a seventh-round draft pick in 2008 to the Raiders for Moss, tight end Courtney Anderson and a conditional 2009 draft pick that would depend on how well Rodgers played for the Raiders in 2007 and 2008.

if they trade rodgers, they'll draft a wr to develop and compete with Ingleberry.
