Yeah, it's awesome. I already like it more than "Giuliani" and their live show.

with the amount of new albums i get and the new plan to not end up with 500 by year end, if records don't really immediately grab me, they aren't going to stick around.

Dude I know you're a music fan but this comment makes you sound like some information junkie that just consumes shit and throws it away.

Ever heard of spending time with albums and letting them sit with you and marinate a bit?

I appreciated your top 50 blurbs but god help me if I ever even ATTEMPT to listen to 500 new albums in a year.

at couple years ago i was at a 75% rate -- about 273 albums in one year -- and found that was too much. not enough time to appreciate each one.

this year i've employed a "candidate list", sampling from a pool of albums i'm considering to listen to next and picking out the best based on the song samples i hear.

This album gets a resounding "meh" from me. Just kinda...falls flat, I guess? The thing is, I'm sure I'll hear this album about a thousand times throughout the year, given my roommates' and friends' musical preferences.

Just heard this last night. Basically, I think the lead track is too good for the rest of the album. Title songs has a fantastic little guitar line running through it that just makes it stabnd head and shoulders above what follows. After that song, the rest just seems really homogeneous. I just keep waiting for another tune that tosses something interesting in the mix to set it apart again, but it never happens.

Great song, mediocre album.

Then again, that was a casual, in-the-background, first listen, maybe I'll change my mind iof I hear it again.

I feel like we take the opposite approach to hearing new stuff. I limit what I take in from the outset based more on what I've read than on quick decisions I can make from "preview" listens. And then if I'm going to listen to something at all, I want to listen to it a lot. I think that's why I mostly just listen to things I buy. That way I have the extra incentive to keep giving something a chance even if it doesn't grab me right away.

There are problems with both methods, but I find that I'm less trusting of the opinions of people who try to take in so much. For instance, I put almost no stock in what Dalen thinks of anything (but that could just be because we have really different taste). I also always thought FnB's opinions on newer music were pretty baffling. I do respect your opinions, but I often feel like you don't give certain things enough of a chance while you're too easily wooed by others. Then again, I've only heard a fraction of the stuff you talk about.

Anyway, I've been tempted to pick up this !!! for some reason even though I've never liked their previous albums (I had and sold the last one). I do like the Guiliani song, though.

Drinky,

You probably won't like this one either if you didn't like the last one. The last one was more "difficult" than the new one however. The new one is more streamlined. If you're not naturally inclined to like upbeat danceable rock, then you'll probably never like !!!.

Well, I like it sometimes. Some of !!!'s songs are just so incredibly dumb that they're hard to listen to more than a few times. Others are almost perfect ("Giuliani" and a few others).

So I guess my main problem with their previous albums is their inconsistency. Also just more bad than good, I guess.

I think "Pardon My Freedom" and "Hello? Is This Thing On?" were my least favorites off of the last one. "Shit Schiesse Merde" isn't all that bad IIRC.

Some terrible songs on their first record, too.

Anyway, I'm sure I'll check this one out at some point.
