Should I download this from emusic, where it is for some reason the current top album (despite being a year old)? Sounds maybe like RIYL Micah P. Hinson, Crooked Fingers, Hold Steady?

I've liked songs, but haven't actually heard an album by this band. I'm not sure I've heard any Hold Steady in there from what little I've entertained.

Tentoze is a fan, I believe.

No I wouldn't say the clips I've heard sound like the Hold Steady so much as I think there would be overlap in their fans.

I have Mojave and like it a lot. Crooked Fingers is a good comparison. To me, it's sort of 'If Nick Cave was an acoustic folkie.'

it was the top album because a song from that album was the "free song of the day".

Robert Fisher's voice is like an Old Testament prophet's- huge. Let It Roll isn't their best work, but it's good for me. Fisher has a habit of making at least one mistake on every album- on this one, it's a cover of Ballad Of A Thin Man and it is really unnecessary. The title track is 9 minutes + of balls-out, proggy-influenced, exhausting goodness. I don't do RIYL's very well. In spite of the Dylan cover, one of my favorites from last year.

Absolutely download this. Great album, it was only issued stateside a few weeks ago. I am a huge fan of this "collaborative"..they are more than a band. My favorite is "Everything Fine" but "Let It Roll" is a great album, kind of dark, but not quite as bleak as the last one. However, this music has nothing what so evet to do with Hold Steady.
