I really like Cream, though I don't own anything by them anymore.

No, simply adding those words wouldn't make your opinion humble.

I'll take "Lay Down Sally", "After Midnight" (especially the slowed down late 80's beer commercial version), and even "Its In The Way That You Use It" (which like "Layla" benefits from brilliant usage in a Scorsesse movie) over fucking "Sunshine of Your Love" or "White Room" any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

Even over "SWLABR"??? ("But the picture had a MOUS-TACHE!!!") haha

Seriously, though, "Badge" is probably one of the greatest songs ever of all time in the history of the world.

"Badge" and "Tales of Brave Ulysses" are pretty damn cool, theres just a lot of crap in the Cream catalog.

to be fair, SSOYL and White Room have been about as brutally overplayed as any two songs can be, compared to the solo songs Yail mentioned.

Melissa never lets an opportunity go by without mentioning Kiss.

About Clapton though, I'm sort of indifferent. I don't hate the man or his tunes but his music belongs to an older generation that I don't identify with much. I'm sort of surprised to hear that he's still putting out new albums.

without reading this thread i'll respond like so:

don't really care for the guy's catalog. although i saw this doc (or something) where he just went into this empty room with some other dude and played old blues covers. that was pretty cool.

I'm not sure where you equate my characterization of the quality of his later career work with categorically dismissing anything he does, particularly for charity, but whatever.

Nice lineup, and I'm sure it will raise a lot of money.

"Anyone for Tennis"...uh..anyone?

Also, Sunshine of Your Love gets..uh...Love from me for being in Uncommon Valor. An Uncommonly good movie.

(And I have now bested Bob's record for worst attempts at wordplay in a single post)

I have the Crossroads boxset. I still listen to it occasionally. So I guess I don't dislike Clapton to keep with the original question. Is he still relevant to current music? His older music is, and everything else he's done over the last 20 years, save for Unplugged, will likely be forgotten. When people want to hear Clapton, you think they'll want to hear his collaboration with Duane Allman or fucking Babyface?
