I completely disagree with Meat Puppets.
-The debut, s/t album sucked.
-Meat Puppets II (1983), Up On the Sun (1985), Out My Way(1985), Mirage(1986), Huevos (1987), Forbidden Places (1990), and Too High To Die (1993) are all goddamn great.
-They had a couple of misfires in-between and at the very end - Monsters (1988) and No Joke (1995) - but come on... they hardly qualify.

Meat Puppets I was their best work, in my opinion. II is a little better than Up on the Sun, and it was a constant decline until Too High to Die, which is another high point from them. Still, they basically were on a downhill path with the exception of that one album, which shouldn't disqualify them from this thread.

Absolutel crazy talk. I is almost unlistenable. II, Up On the Sun, Forbidden Places and Huevoes own I.

Almost unlistenable?!?!?

And their work from II - Too High To Die was, IMO, not even close to a downhill decline. It was consistently good, with those two exceptions that I mentioned in my earlier post.

In fact, I rate the records like this:
1. Up On the Sun
2. II
3. Forbidden Places
4. Mirage
5. Huevos
6. Too High To Die
7. Out My Way (EP)
8. Monsters
9. No Joke!
10. I

With very little difference in quality between ranking Nos. 1-7. In fact, any of 2-7 could switch places with any other one at anyu given time for me, depending upon my mood.

(I never heard the final record with the revamped lineup, so I cannot rank it.)

I is one of the best hardcore records I've ever heard. Period. Definitely one of the three best.

I'd say a good 50% of bands fit in this category.

Edit: After saying this, I can't think of a single group who fits.

a well thought out post folks.

You pick the dumbest ways to try to make me look bad.

If every post on message boards were well thought out, there wouldn't BE such a thing as message boards.

Actually, you don't need his help. Your post was pretty funny all by itself. I mean, you didn't even need a straight man between two posts asking you to "...name one example".

I lol'd.
Is everyone on this board fucking retarded? I truly mean that.

Red is a great song (the original version, anyway. The remixed version is pretty crappy).

I was gonna start a new thread about this, but hell... I woulda taken crap for that since I started this thread back in '05. Good thing I found it! (Actually, it's a pretty interesting read.)

But the inspiration for the new thread will just be the laters addition to this one:
Terrence Trent D'Arby

This first album (listening now) is pretty freaking amazing, as dated as the production is. He had every right to be a self-aggrandizing asshole, if anyone does. But he really hasn't done much after that's so good. Nothing truly terrible, but there is just too damn much wasted potential left sitting on the table with him.

Most would disagree, but I happen to agree with you. Gish is The Bomb! Downhill from there, IMO.

i'll say everything after siamese dream is disappointing. one of my coworkers told me the other day he hasn't seen the pumpkins since they've had an album out. i was like, "man... you are old." he just kinda laughed and then probably wanted to strangle me for being a kid with no family and opportunity to go to any show.
