Maybe, but have teams like Butler or Southern Illinois ever gotten single digit seeds?

Do ya'll think the fact that all these high seeds are advancing has anything to do with the new NBA rule where you have to go to college a year (or is it turn 19)?

I think it figures into it.

Considering that two of the high-seed Sweet Sixteen are SIU & Butler, that would have been tenth or twelfth seeded even three years ago & liable to pull one of the "patented" March Madness upsets, I would say it's a product of the selection committee actually seeding the tournament correctly. Additionally, Memphis is a two, but from the truncated Conference USA (the last best team standing after the defection of six CUSA to the Big East is... Memphis). Last, UNLV's Rapin' Rebels -- Mountain West is not a major conference, by opinion of basketball tastemakers.

I'll grant you that there are exceptions and I'll say that SIU and Butler have been building on their success from years past. Both those teams have been in the tourney pretty regularly for the last 3-5 years.

I just think the rule will change the landscape and those teams will be more and more scarce. There will always be upsets but I don't think it will happen as often.

I think because all of the players that would normally go pro out of high school are now going to college. Think about Lebron, Garnett, Kobe, etc, etc playing college ball.

The talent pool was diminished because they were going pro. With limited scholarships, the big schools can only pick 2-3 players a year to take. That leaves a few blue chippers out of the big programs to go to a smaller school.

Now, these players that would've gone pro are going to the big schools again (Oden, Durant, etc) and will make it harder for the small schools to breakthrough.

Of course a small school with 5 seniors that have all played together will always pose a threat but I just think in general this will all have an effect on the landscape of college ball.

Didn't catch the game, but (judging by the score) it looked like SIU gave KU a run for their money. Too bad they couldn't pull it off in the end.

Said it before and I'll say it again:
Screw KU

I lost A&M. Am I still ahead in the pick 'em? I can't access it at work, considered "gambling".

Someone please beat Florida soon.

The mid-majors' lack of size spelled SIU's doom. If they had one fucker over 6'9", they'd have won that game.

I'm tied for first right now and am still perfect in the West Bracket. I basically need Kansas to eliminate UCLA and UNC to win out to lock it up. Florida losing and Memphis beating Ohio State would help alot too. I'm not going to brag until this is all over, right now I'm just happy to be up top for a bit.

Oregon was up big. I think UNLV made a late run though to make it close.

Also, apparently the Masters is A TRADITION LIKE NO OTHER!

I have 7/8 and all 4. This may be my best year ever.

We still have a lot of dogs in the Obner hunt.

The Final Four is pretty much guaranteed to have some ridiculous games.

Tomorrow and Sunday should be nuts.

I was damn near eliminated with UNC last night. I am glad they got their shit together and pulled it out.
While I really want to win, I'll stick in the anyone but Marco camp for right now.

I was a USC victory away from being 8/8 in the latest round in my office pool.
I have Memphis winning in 2 polls, Ohio State winning in one, and Oregon winnning in the other. I've got a 37.5% chance that I picked a winner.

I'm sitting in 2nd in both of my pools right now.

Damn. 46-12 overall. I've probably missed 12 in the first round before.

45-13 here in second place. If UNC loses to G-Town, I'll be tied with the same remaining picks and the pool will come down to points.

Impressive win even though that Mata kid is really disturbing looking; like John Matuszak bred with an aborigine perhaps.

Mario Chalmers is the next great NBA point guard for the Hawks to pass on in the draft.

azteca warrior profile... with multiple breaks on the beak

I think the Bruins will/could beat Florida and North Carolina... but I worry about Oregon.

I figured they would be close or lead early and then eventually get ground down and lose by 12-15, so good on them for keeping it close.
