I got a new one.

New York Dolls. Damn that corpse can't sing, and everything else just sucked.

Smashing Pumpkins Billy's voice sucked

I think Helms was pretty horrible too. Not sure about that though, all I remember was that it was some band that opened up for The Dismemberment Plan.

I hated Fog when I saw them too. I was hoping for more of his turntable stuff but it was just some lameass 3 piece crap.

The Two York Dolls are far from the worst band I've seen, but then again, I've seen the Country Teasers.

Only band I recall seeing live that I thought were horrible that I actually liked going into the show was Everclear. I couldn't listen to any of their albums for years after, although they broke up a month or two later so I wrote it off to that.

Badly Drawn Boy circa 2001

By a country mile, the worst I've ever seen in my life.

there are too many to name, but the one band that has never done anything for me live after two performances is sigur ros. people lose their fucking shit over them and i have always been way underwhelmed. (and one of those times was their second trip before the hype was out of control, so i've not blamed it on that.)

the guillemots were the worst half of a set i saw last year. i couldn't handle their awful jangly sound for more than that. in fact, i haven't even been able to listen to them since then.

good call, but i fail to see how anyone thought they could be good based on how shitty their recorded output was.

I make it a point to be drunk at every show I go to, so I at least think I'm having a good time.

I've seen far too many awful punk and metal shows back in the day, but of the recent ones that have sucked, Statistics played a show here a couple years ago where Denver Dalley was so freaking drunk that he was sloppy and forgot alot of words. All the people who came to see Maria Taylor open basically left after one song. I stayed around since he gives away shots like candy at their shows.

Either Josh Caterer was really drunk the night I saw him or he has no musical rhythm because he kept coming in early and late on all of the songs....I really loved this band, but hated their live show.

The only show I ever walked out on was:
The Frogs

But another one, on any given night, could be:
Yo La Tengo
Of course, on any given night, they could also be the BEST!
Go figure.

Yep.

The Guillemots
Joanna Newsom
Spoon
Paper Chase (opened for Explosions last week)

I've seen LOTS of terrible friend rock, too. Most musicians I know personally in Chicago aren't good.

Horrible the first time opening for Radiohead (how did that happen?). The 15min I was subjected to at V Fest over the weekend confirmed they haven't improved in the time since. Though at least the main guy's sister wasn't "singing"

I think Spoon has been fantastic every time I have seen them. They blew Bright Eyes away the time they shared the stage in Omaha.
I also thought the Paper Chase was pretty good, not fabulous, but not awful

I don't really like Spoon anyway.

I can't even address your Paper Chase comment. I felt like I was being punished when I saw them. I didn't even try to quiet the hecklers around me.

Most of the really crappy bands I've seen are just locals getting started. By the time a band builds a following and get a record and all that out, they're not all top notch, but they're usually at least more competent than the real beginners that I see fairly regularly.
