I saw Bush play at a radio station festival at the height of their popularity. There was a lot of great bands on the bill: Weezer, Quicksand, Teenage Fanclub, but Bush closed the show with just the worst performance ever.

Oh...and I actually thought the Dolls were pretty good when I saw 'em. Then again, all bands have good and bad nights.

I've seen tons of crappy opening acts. As for headliners, I saw The Real Kids a few years ago, and they were dreadful. I've Robyn Hitchcock suck it big time as well.

My hatred for The Roots can be traced to a particularly terrible show at the Athens Civic Center or whatever it was called.

They even broke out the "I say 'hey,' you say 'ho'" and then accused the audience of "not feeling them" and "maybe being too white."

Utter and complete dogshit.

I haven't seen any bad shows in a really long time, minus a few openers that I don't really remember that well.

One of the worst shows I ever saw was Conor Oberst solo circa 2000.

When I saw Jason Collette open for Feist a year or so ago, I thought he sucked it up big time. As plastic a performance as I've ever seen.

Memories are starting to come back to me now...

Openers:
7 Year Rabbit Cycle (opening for Deerhoof) was almost unbearable.

Local group Wilson + Heath (opening for Wolf Eyes) was one of the most annoying, pretentious, and outright punchworthy excuses for a noise band that I've ever seen/heard. Thankfully, I think they packed it in a while ago.

Funny how those two bands made Deerhoof and Wolf Eyes seem polished and tightly structured by comparison.

The absolute WORST headliner I've ever seen:
Phil Elvrum (The Microphones/Mount Eerie). Haven't been able to enjoy his music (much) since. I really wanted to smash his guitar over his head and demand my money (and time) back.

Worst live band I ever saw was Sonic Youth, when they opened for Neil Young and Crazy Horse on the Ragged Glory tour. Just thinking about it makes me shiver with discomfort.

Good Call
I had basically forgotten all the terrible Bright Eyes gigs in Omaha around that time.
He'd get drunk, whine about people not paying attention to him and talking during his acoustic sets and then storm off in a tantrum at some point.
If you hadn't talked to him personally at some point beforehand you would hate his guts afterward for those shows.

i second that. i've also seen some horribly awful local bands that nobodies heard of, but they don't count.

i heard it was because the singer is a jerk who the other guys didn't like. i'll vouch that they're a bore live, but lp and some assorted songs ("country gentleman") are tops.
