Mandy Patinkin in The Princess Bride:
Just bought this over the weekend and watched it for the first time in a long time. As great as the movie is, period. It wouldn't be half the flick it is without Mandy. I become more of a fan every time I see him in anything. The guy is underrated as hell. At least by our generation. The grandmas all love him.

And yeah, I know... Yentl.
Guy's gotta pay the bills.

Per another thread, Ellen Burstyn - Requiem For A Dream. Nominated for an Oscar but lost that year to Julia Fuglyberts for Erin Brokovich.

Rod Taylor in Welcome To Woop Woop

Daniel Day-Lewis in Gangs Of New York

Ben Kingsley in Sexy Beast

All three are remarkable achievements in making a completely horrifying individual sympathetic.

Yes.
And you took charm lessons from Elvis Fu?

Nope, I taught that class.

I don't think I'd got that far. There are a ton of great performances in that movie.

Is this thread just your way of saying that you really like Inigo Montoya?

I think Patinkin is a fine actor but that character was by far the most memorable thing he's ever done. I think he has done mostly TV work for the last 15 years with a few forgetable movies here and there.

Not sure I understand the object here. Just throwing out screen performances you thought were good that didn't win oscars?

I liked Paul Giamatti as Harvey Pekar in American Splendor. Watching someone be so miserable has never been more entertaining.

Davd Straithairn was great as Edward R. Murrow in Goodnight and Good Luck. Pretty subdued but everytime he's on the screen the scene felt important, for me at least.

I liked Ryan Gosling in Half Nelson, which I just watched yesterday.

I need to bump The Believer up in my Netflix queue.

Gena Rowlands in A Woman Under the Influence. She practically redefines acting there.

I feel the same about Emily Watson in Breaking the Waves.
