Heavy Trash at the Satellite Ballroom in Charlottesville. Didn't go because I went to a movie with some weirdo.

Wolf Eyes at the Nanci Raygun in Richmond. Didn't go because I wasn't 18. Godfuckingdamnit.

Lords/Pusher/Dealer at the Bonezone in Richmond. Didn't go because it was holiday season and I worked until 10, but the show was still going on. I went and drank beer at Carytown Burgers and Fries instead.

Boris at the Ottobar. Didn't go because I wasn't 18. Reiterate the godfuckingdamnit.

Elvis Costello at Wolftrap in Vienna, I didn't go because I went to see Sonic Youth instead. While it was awesome, i've seen them before. I haven't seen Elvis Costello.

I'm sure there are many many more. Life gets in the way and it sucks, and I regret all of my dumb decisions except the ones I couldn't get around like not being 18. Why didn't I have a fake ID? Damnit. For Boris I think I was just weeks from being 18 because i'm pretty sure my ex boyfriend was 18 at that point.

Shit sucks.

the only show besides the ones that I couldn't see because I wasn't old enough that I regret missing is Nas at the House of Blues this Friday. Why did I put off buying the ticket till it was sold out, damnit I'm such an idiot some times.

I had friends in from out-of town one weekend back in 1993 and Shrimp Boat was playing at the Lounge Ax here in Chicago. They wanted to see some live music, so I suggested the S.B. show, of course.

They insisted on going to see some show at Kingston Mines, instead. We saw some old blues guy play yet ANOTHER rendition of "Sweet Home Chicago" while drinking overpriced, cheap-ass beer in a too-crowded room.

"Oh well," I thought, "They're local, so I'll have another chance to see them."

They broke up a couple of months later.

Arcade Fire
Interpol with Calla
Mew with Oh No! Oh My!, last week.

I'm sure I will have to edit and add more.

Morphine @ 40 Watt in Athens. Their last US tour before Sandman kicked it on stage in Italy.

Phish NYE 2000 - Seminole, FL. I was working at a bank and they wouldn't let us off because of Y2K.

Neil Young surprise set @ 12th & Porter (200 capacity club) in Nashville while he was here taping the "Heart of Gold" doc.

I'm sure there are many more.

i missed so many shows due to age restrictions when i was younger. i even wrote a letter to one band asking if they'd ever play an all ages venue in my metropolitan area. they wrote back saying the money was better in the bars. when they finally did play an all ages show, i was legal.

the one show i will always regret missing is nirvana (and shonen knife) in november 1993. my dad imposed a limit on shows i could see every quarter. this was based on my grades. he developed some ludicrous system based on the letters and which honor roll (regular vs high) i was on. he wouldn't let me go to that nirvana show, though, because it was a tuesday night. and "they'll play here again." i'm still waiting...

I wish I could have seen My Bloody Valentine. Hearing how loud they were live makes me want to so bad.

Aw, man, you've won this thread three times over.

First that come to mind:

Joanna Newsom and Vashti Bunyan at Pop Montreal
Boredoms at FIMAV
Konono No. 1 at Jazz Fest

And I'm still mad at myself for looking at the printed SXSW schedule and realizing how many ridiculous shows I was missing at any given time.

Joe Strummer and The Mescaleros in '99 - Friends saw them and met Strummer (pantheon-level artist and hero for me) afterward and hung out with him. I was an editor for the college paper and couldn't get away.

The Stooges w/ Sonic Youth and VonBondies in '03 - Just a great bill and the DVD of the show that they put out is fantastic.

I'll think of more later.

yeah, you sound crushed.

I missed the Thermals show the night after my dad died. I was still entertaining the idea of going down there because I'd gotten the ticket months ago, but it probably wouldn't have been the best idea.

I almost never regret missing live shows, probably because I don't like most lve shows.

Deerhoof/Busdriver @ The 40 Watt

Grizzly Bear @ The Drunken Unicorn

Of Montreal @ The Variety Playhouse

Mastodon @ pretty much anywhere. Never seen them even though they play here pretty often.

Far too many to list. Nearly all because I'm neurotic about going to shows alone and I have few friends who like the same music as me.

Most recently:

Eels. Twice.

Guster. For free.

Pretty much every TEXXAS JAM I never saw (i.e., all of them, except for 1986).

Circa 2001, when I lived in San Francisco, my cousin visited. We could have seen M. Ward at the Covered Wagon but went to see Jim Yoshi Pile Up at the Make-Out Room instead. Have always regretted that.

Oh, and then a few months after I moved David Kilgour played at Great American Music Hall.
