Heh, the trail includes White Lion, Deep Purple, Anthrax and Iron Maiden.

My guess is that it's really just a bunch of older bands, e.g. the Smiths or whatever... that happen to linked up to newer heavier bands because their original members where eventually replaced by session peeps.
