Last night...

Nico: The Frozen Borderline 1968-1970

This double disc set includes The Marble Index and Desertshore. Desertshore is my favorite of the two, but they are both similar. If you like the idea of minimalistic art music, mostly harmonia backing by JohnCale with Nico rambling monotone over the top, creating a morbid, sparse noise, you've found what you're looking for. I've seen it described as music to slit your wrists to, and while that may be exagerration, probably not by much.

and, this morning...

Johnny Dowd: Pictures From Life's Other Side

Some real weirdness here that I was reminded of in the thread about voice combos. The duets are stunning. Haunted house country rock music with religious overtones. I've enjoyed some of his other stuff, but for me, this record is his high point that I kinda doubt he'll ever reach again or surpass.

Jesus, I remember bringing home that Clash album (original release) and cranking the shit out of it. My dad was upstairs and he couldn't believe Strummer's voice was part of the recording - he'd thought it was me tunelessly yelling along.

anyway, np:

That Vibrators record is really good. I've always thought it weird that they never seemed to be as popular as I would think they should be.

I smile every time I remember the rumor that Chris Spedding did all of the guitar work on Never Mind The Bollocks and played behind a curtain during all of the Pistols' gigs.

Oh, and Radcliffe wins. That's by far my fave SLF album.
