I thought FU would have had this up already. Truly a Giant. I think you can make some arguements that he's been as influential in the civil rights movement in the U.S. as anyone.

In Grambling's hey day, they were only 2nd to Notre Dame in active players in the NFL. In total he put 200 players in the NFL and kept an 85% graduation rate. Not to mention that he broke down barriers that blacks were smart enough to coach and play quarterback. Started coaching 6 years before Jackie Robinson. Fastest coach to 400 wins.

Also did alot of little things for his players to make sure that they were successful in life like personally wake up every member of his football team to make sure they went to class everyday for 57 years. Made sandwiches for them when they weren't allowed to dine in Southern towns.

It brought down my day a bit when I saw this on tv this morning. I started to feel better when most of the people discussing him were just happy to have spent some time with him.

I drove over to Grambling the night he won his 400th. It was a pretty incredible scene.

Though it's unfortunate to see a Great American like Eddie Robinson pass, he's been in pretty ill health for the past several years.

Guys like Robinson are one of a kind. You'll never see one like him again.

You may see coaches stay as long in one place again but not take his young men through the social turmoil and racism that this country faced at the time he started coaching to today.

Much respect for the man. Everything that's right about sports.
