I've wondered about this for a while before today realising I could just ask someone on here who lives in California or something.

If a show, like Saturday Night Live, airs live 11:30pm EST, when does it air in California?

Does it air taped at 11:30pm? Or does it air live at 8:30pm?

Most award shows air live at 8pm EST. So do you watch all the award shows non-live? Or do you have to watch them in the middle of the afternoon? Neither makes much sense to me.

Any shows that originate on the east coast typically are recorded and aired at the same time on the west coast, eg, SNL. However, gaming events are held at the same time only earlier.

So we get to watch the shows hours before you. So you can go online and read the awards results before it even airing there.

Well, a lot of the award shows are shown live or broadcast from the west coast.

SNL airs at 11:30 on east and west coasts, and 10:30 in central and mountain time zones. this, i believe, is also how many television shows operate.

seriously, the time change (conan at 11:30?!) was one of the weirdest things about moving to the midwest.

yeah that always fucked with me when i went to school in nashville. one of the benefits was futurama at 1am instead of 2am. made it reasonable to watch when i had class early the next morning.

This is a question I asked my mom when I was about seven years old.

Related question: Why does everything air an hour earlier in Central time zones? This makes no sense to me. I guess if they're airing something live, that's an hour earlier, but they do it with everything.
