I love The Cramps. There probably one of my all time Top Twenty bands. Hell, even when they went crap (i.e anything after 'Smell Of Female', they were still pretty good.

Top 5 Cramps Songs

1. New Kind Of Kick
2. Sunglasses After Dark
3. Beautiful Gardens
4. Don't Eat Stuff Off The Sidewalk
5. The Crusher

An honorable mention for 'Chicken' which has THE greatest guitar solo ever. Match that Clapton!

My top 5 Cramps songs:

1. Human Fly
2. Rockin' Bones
3. I Ain't Nuthin' But A Gorehound
4. T.V. Set
5. I Can't Hardly Stand It

The Cramps played Vancouver back in '86, and my girlfriend invited a good friend of hers called Twyla to come along with us. We all met at a pub beforehand and, somewhat oddly, Twyla showed up in a fairly slinky evening gown. When I learned that the last concert Twyla had gone to was Kool & The Gang I knew this wasn't gonna turn out well.

Anyway, we got to the Thunderbird arena just as back-up band (and local legends) Slow started their set. The first chords of "Lookin' For Something Clean" were so loud I could feel my hair part. Twyla's face dropped in shock immediately. On top of the assaulting volume, the crowd was a collection of Vancouver's finest freaks, and Slow were dressed in blood-spattered nurses outfits draped in surgical tubing. Twyla sat in the grandstands and stayed there, completely out of place in the evening gown. Slow killed. Then the Cramps came on and all hell broke loose.

Twyla never said another word that night. Even on the drive home she just sat silently in the rear seat. When we dropped her off at her place she opened the door and ran for the house without even a goodbye. I actually never spoke to her again - but I sorta suspect something deep inside her changed forever that night.

Well this thread really took off. Fucking kids today! To business with their Bright Eyes twin releases to know about proper ROCK N ROLL MUSIC!!

Hey, TV Set is a pretty good pick (I especially like the line "I'll use your eyeballs as dials on my TV set").

I saw The Cramps twice. I saw them in Glasgow and the last time (and this was a while ago) I travelled to London on a bus just to see them. Both times were fucking amazing.

Anyone else have a 'thing' for Candy Del Mar?

This thread response was rushed due to having to go to work. My supervisor is back this week too. Bitch. There's someone that needs a good dose of 'Songs The Lord Taught Us'

I saw the Cramps a few times in the late-80's. My most vivid memory was Lux breaking a microphone stand over his head. He did a curl/press kind of thing, gave a huge grin and brought the thing down on his noggin' snapping it in two. He went through more than a dozen mike stands that night.

1. Human Fly
2. The Way I Walk

Because they were the first, and because they're on Vengeance, two of the more valuable singles in my collection

3. New Kind of Kick

Stictly for "Formaldehyde"

4. Lonesome Town

Because Lux can croon the tear-jerker with the best of 'em

5. Saddle Up A Buzz-Buzz

Because it's oh so mongerous.

The sad thing is that only three people have responded here, but had it been about The White Stripes the thread would be 50 posts long.

Can't give you a top 5 Cramps song list, because I only have "Songs The Lord Taught Us", (which I just put on the ol' turntable), can't imagine T.V. Set not being on any such list, though.

I will say that when I saw them in Montreal in the mid/late '80s it was, and still is, in the top 5 shows I've ever seen. Rarely a day goes by without thoughts of Poison Ivy entering my head.

In 1986, my mom found my copy of Smell of Female and confiscated it. About 3 weeks later we were at church and I happened to see it in our minister's office, and reappropriated it back.

Wonder why I quit going to church as soon as I left home?

The Cramps are awesome- they are the highlight of Urgh! a Music War.

Ivy really should've been mentioned in that Hottest Indie Rock Chicks thread. She's got all those sulky, too-late-for-Lillith Fair, too-short-for-a-modelling-career posers beat all to hell. Plus she's got a gun.

Y'know, you can shorten that long-ass link to something like Cramps at Napa State Mental Hospital if you want. Then everybody could read the page without scrolling.

If you don't know how, just quote this post and see how it's done.

That video is fuckin' great.

Sound and picture quality are total crap, but the band is in fine form and watching the patient audience get into it is absolutely worth it.

My personal favorite patient is the cowboy who keeps wanting to hug Lux, followed closely by the chick who steals the mic.

Oooh, I dunno 'bout that one. The total over-the-top debauchery of the Surf Punks set is tough to beat. And then there's the Alley Cats--yummmm.
