It seems the board has split up into three groups, musically.

1. "Regular Rock" - Anything from Drive By Truckers to Kings of Leon to Grant Lee Buffalo, etc.

2. Indie Rock - Anything from The Arcade Fire to The Shins to Modest Mouse, etc.

3. Experimental - Anything from Six Organs of Admittance to Joanna Newsom to Liars to Animal Collective, etc.

4. Other?

Which group do you best identify with?

4. Indie Pop / Femme Rock

Out of the choices listed, I listen to a few from each of the groups but nothing that overwhelms my collection.

guitar, bass, drum, maybe some horns, some handclaps, and some keyboards from time to time.

Everything, really, but I couldn't deny indie-kid status. Well, maybe the kid part.

I voted Indie Rock before I read the original post. But I should've voted other, because I like 1, 2 and 3.

I gotta admit, i think i'm turning into a curmudgeon. I don't want to hate everything you like, but i'm just not getting excited about alot of new music. I'm mostly listening to music where the focus is the song and not some mood or soundscape that is an excuse to write a song.

I like a melody and a lyrical hook, and i'm tending to prefer playing that supports the song, and doesn't crowd the mix.

It's probably backlash against myself for my liquid soul days.

That said, the new patty griffin is awesome, and i just got a wax tailor album off of e-music that's sweet. The Bastard Sons catalog is a motherfucker too.

Mostly, i'm excited about the music i'm making and recording with Chalk Outlines, my trio, colin gilmore, and others.

Anyhow, what's the point of this poll anyways?

I voted Experimental but I meant Other. If we're really to make groupings here, I tend to do so by qualities of sound. Dubbed out, reverberant, delicate or strident, slow lethargic and hard ferocious paces, maximal or minimal, that's my jam.

SPANK ROCK!

Actually, I usually like the harmonic side of indie rock, particularly the Brits but also the instrumental/ambient stuff too. If Dri or Dalen are excited about something new, then I know I need to hear it.

Definitely not:

FREAK FOLK
JAMBANDISM HIPPIES
HIP HOP HOS MUSIC
EXPERIMENTAL (i.e. noise bullshit/yelling by college age dropouts who can't play their own instruments but are tagged as being "interesting", "important" or "avant-garde" because their singer is Korean girl or something)
ELFIN ROCK
PEOPLE WHO WEAR ANIMAL COSTUMES ROCK
HIGHLY RATED BY PITCHFORK
OBSCURE AND IT COMES FROM A THIRD WORLD COUNTRY (i.e. FRUITY TROPICALIA)
ANYTHING THAT DRINKY RECOMMENDS

Out of those, regular rock fits the bill the best for me.

Indie Rock from your choices and bands listed, but I would tend to say many of those should fall into the Regular Rock category and are probably viewed as experimental to the layman.
The fact that all the bands listed in the indie category have had as much commercial success or more than the regular rock category, makes me think the category heading of regular rock might be a misnomer.
I would have made a bigger differentiation on those that tend to like Americana/Southern Rock, those that are more electronically inclined, and the jazz/world, et. al category that I typically see Billy G. in.
