Lindsey Buckingham was scheduled to perform last night here in Lincoln at the same venue I recently saw Neko Case. He decided not to play when they wouldn't let him use his own sound board. The venue has luxury condos above it and noise censors in the ceiling. Performers there are only allowed to play at a certain volume, and at Neko Case it seemed to be the perfect volume. The guy who produced this show has produced some major concerts like Motley Crue at the venue I work at, so I am sort of assuming all of this was in the rider.
Was Buckingham right or just being a huge prick?

p.s.
I also read in today's University of Nebraska newspaper that the University of Kansas paid The Faint 70K to play a show there earlier this year. I love The Faint, but how do they get off asking that much and what sort of University Program Council thinks its a good idea to pay The Faint that kind of cash.

Buckingham has a pretty well-known reputation as an insufferable prick. He can go his own way...

But he plays guitar without a pick... just his fingers.

... no?

Oh, he's a brilliant guitarist, no doubt about it. But also apparently an egomaniac of the highest order.

Yeah, great guitarist, not so great a solo career except for a large part of Tusk  and a few others post F-Mac tunes.

Call the white witch herself, Stevie Nicks... I'm sure she could enlighten you on whether Lindsey's a prick or not.

Shit, that was the one song I was using to show his lack of relevence and why he shouldn't have acted like a major ass.

Someone said a while back that if "Under The Skin" was released by an indie band, everyone would be going nuts over it, but it was largely ignored because it was made by a pop genius. Weird, right? Has anyone heard it? I thought it was incredible. The songs open up with each successive listen.

And as for the soundboard thing, he is a notorious perfectionist, so it comes with the territory.....right?

Phallacy of the request aside, how does "own sound board" automatically translate to "above venue's allowed volume?"

Good Question, and I had a lengthy debate with one of my friends who belongs to the IATSE Union last night at the bar about it. Only going from what I heard through my local industry connections and having worked with the promoter of this show before, the venue is pretty particular about having their own in house sound guy control their board due to the volume stipulations. Buckingham supposedly due to his perfectionist ways wanted his own board and own guy, which normally wouldn't be an odd request, but since this venue is pretty clear about their policy the show inevitably never happened.

I just bought Out of the Cradle and am giving it a first listen now, and...
DAMN!
This just sounds so damn dated and... not... good. Like the early 90's adult alternative that it is. Don't know why I would have thought differently, but there it is. At least I didn't pay much for it.
Disappointed.

I understand an artist not wanting to sound like shit and control every aspect of the show. In fact, I sort of respect that kind of devotion to quality.

I'm assuming he pulled out before the show and not during the show or the day of. Because that would be dick.

(sometimes it's not the best idea to resurrect a thread just because it has a similar topic.)

I believe it was day of and that he had already loaded his gig into the venue, but it's been a long time since that occurred.
It is funny how the resurrection date for this thread is identical to the original date.

Since this was brought up again, Aziz Ansari pulled out of a University of Nebraska gig there last week to reschedule other dates so he can host the MTV Movie Awards. Either he or the venue was raping the college for money, since tickets were rather high for a university program council event.

Edit: The link to the story I cited in the original post is still active and said that Buckingham cancelled the gig two hours before the show and that his contract stipulated he had to use what the venue had provided for him.

His money wasn't out of control for that date.

As to your 3-year-old Lindsey Buckingham post... this should've all been advanced weeks prior to the show. Not being able to use your own SBD due to dB limits is something agent should've noted on the original offer or at least been alerted to by the venue.

It was according to the article, but Buckingham's people asserted that the venue misrepresented what sort of sound of equipment they had or were providing in the advance.

is it bad that the only time i've even thought of lindsey buckingham in the last probably 10-15 years was when bill hader has impersonated him on that awful recurring "snl" sketch?
