oh, I didn't realize that you were such a big boy. Anyway, that's how I remember it going down when I was in college. Are you annoying the shit out of your neighbors?

I have two, an A and F. Both are interesting pieces. What type and brand did you get? If you have an A, you'll probably find yrself with "scroll envy".

Good place to start: http://www.mandolincafe.com
Bar none the best mando place on the web. Tons of tabs, teachings, classifieds to find teachers/jams, plus a forum which is uber helpful for newbies.

When my mother was in Spain over Easter '00, she bought my stepfather one of these:

It's mandolinish, I suppose... Twelve strings, though.

I remember an Archie comic where everyone complained that Jughead never did any work so he told them that he did have a job - he was a mandolin stringer.

Good times.

I've often wondered why you never bought one.

Every time I've ever picked one up, it feels like my hand covers the entire fretboard.

Mmmm, nice work. I'd like to try one.

I am currently really into Ukuleles. So sweet sounding. I bought a toy one last summer but I'm going to fork out for a real one soon---easier to keep in tune.

Have fun. :)

Baritone ukes are kinda cool. Tuned like the top 4 strings of a guitar, so it translates a lot easier. Might be fun.

i have a bass uke, i've always tuned it like the middle four strings of a guitar. It's adorable.

Body-type? A being the guitar-shape, with no cutaways, and F being the scroll-cornered body?

A bodies are actually more of a teardrop shape. [img][206:500]http://www.soundexchange2.com/ProductImages/february%20pictures/rover%20R25%20mandolin.jpg[/img]

F bodies have the scroll at the top.[img][333:500]http://www.12fret.com/new/collings_MF5_mandolin_2.jpg[/img]
