Even a pussy, maybe
...but I get a hitch in my throat and a tear in my every time I hear this song. (Or even reading the lyrics, just now:

***

You who are on the road
Must have a code that you can live by
And so become yourself
Because the past is just a good bye.

Teach your children well,
Their father's hell did slowly go by,
And feed them on your dreams
The one they picked, the one you'll know by.

Don't you ever ask them why, if they told you, you would cry,
So just look at them and sigh and know they love you.

And you, of tender years,
Can't know the fears that your elders grew by,
And so please help them with your youth,
They seek the truth before they can die.

Teach your parents well,
Their children's hell will slowly go by,
And feed them on your dreams
The one they picked, the one you'll know by.

Don't you ever ask them why, if they told you, you would cry,
So just look at them and sigh and know they love you.

***

I heard this song on the radio the other day, and I just sat in my car and wept. It rang true in so many different ways. So yeah, call me a pussy or whatever. But this song rules.

CSNY: appresh.

At least you're not Fu or Bulee, & doing a search on "all PopTodd thread-topics" to find something about which to ridicule him whenever PT posts a new one.

Sorry Todd...I fucking hate this song.

Its up there with "Love the One You're With" as the worst songs in the history of man made by a dude with a Walrus Mustache.

It's okay, Todd. I just got done listening to Jack Johnson's "Staple It Together" and there's a Supertramp song playing right now.

If you don't feel obligated to meet anyone's version of cool, your actual days go more smoothly.

Just don't go outside in dress shoes, white socks and bermuda shorts, k?

Cool is as cool does.
I'm an aging music geek who likes what he likes.
When I was in my mid-20's, I think that I hated that song too... so sacchrine. It's still sacchrine, I just "get it" now.

Fuck it. I'm too damn old to worry about being cool.

Y'know, by definition "cool" is something you don't try for. It's not something you shop for, nor learn at school, nor simply discard when you're done with it. Cool knows no age boundaries or dress codes. And if you ever listened to any music just because you thought it made you cool, then you were never cool to begin with.

You're either cool or you're not. And very few of us are. There's no disgrace either way.

But both Todd and FSpoon have got to stop hiding behind this "I don't listen to music to appease the hipsters" bullshit and just accept the fact that you like shitty, uncool music. Liberate yourselves from the tyranny of your inferiority reflexes.

You're not a pussy for listening to that song. You're a pussy for sitting in your car crying while listening to that song. Just thought that needed clearing up.

You aren't a pussy for sitting in the car crying while listening to that song if it's running in the garage with the door down.

that said, I think most cool music is pretty fucking shitty. and that we might be a little too old to make fun of people for listening to uncool music.
