I came across this software and seems to work pretty well for hosting your own files on your own computer.

just install the .msi file, and then list files you want to share. Then it shows you what the link is to share that with other people. It seems to work pretty well. You can even make some files private. I'm streaming music files off my other computer in the house to try it out.
It seems pretty good. I think it could be best used for sharing photos as the mediafires of the internet are a little harder to track file sharing.
