Yeah, I don't know why I even bother anymore.

Is the same joke where you hate the Beatles? Because sometimes is hard to discern the subtlety. Perhaps its our fault.

Disliking the Beatles is a subjective thing.

Living in Canada and not knowing any Neil Young is just... unfathomable? It's like not knowing who the Hip are.

On The Beach. Took me a long time to really get, but I feel like I finally loved it today.

Let me get this straight... you loved Trans BEFORE On the Beach?!?!?

I can't believe I haven't bought Massey Hall. I sicken me.

sidenote: If Neil Young and The Flaming Lips were to ever make a record together, I would buy it then never buy another CD ever again. This would be my ultimate collab.

I can't say enough good things about Neil Young. The Heart of Gold DVD is outstanding as well.

Did you grab that live set with the Honey Slides commentary off Hipinion? I think I have that one around here, too.

is it still up on hipinion?

Honey Slides was the pot/honey mixture he was doing when recording On The Beach right?

I need to try that, though i dont think it will be too often judging by the mood of that record

A 5 gallon pail with a toilet round on top. Its usually used on trips less than three days so contents can be disposed within a reasonable amount of time.

Neil!!!

First the "Trans" thread and now this one - excellent! Glad to see you younger Obs giving NY some love. Neil was a staple on '70s progressive FM and I still remember getting "Decade" for xmas in HS and getting really stoned in a friend's bedroom after school listening to "American Stars And Bars." I must get massive NY on the iPod stat. I'm gonna go crank up "Cowgirl In The Sand" right now - on vinyl.

It's probably still there (not a YSI, it was hosted on some mp3 blog), but I downloaded the whole thing. Let me find it and I'll up it.

Sorry for saturating the board with Neil love. I've just been going through an extended phase of deep appreciation for him, as is really the only way to listen, I find: no casual listening, the spirit calls for binging. First a hereditary influence on my life, and now probably the most important musical figure through the whole of it: I can't help but to examine the contiguities between him, and some of my favourite bands, no matter how disparate their sounds: the link between Brightblack Morning Light and Boris isn't such a leap when you place Neil between them.

Stu, that's kind of why I've reacted differently to "On The Beach" and "Trans", more immediately. "Trans" is a sound and statement that I peripherally knew existed, but didn't accept into my cannon understanding of Young until I really heard it's context. "On The Beach" has confused me because I find it to be one of his more inconsistent records, only in that it deals more nakedly with heavy content as told over comparatively upbeat though still languid rock n' roll. Something about my strange mood at week's end and it finally fit perfectly.

I've got a lot of pot and there's honey across the street. Should I go get some before it snows?

when i first listened to my morning jacket, i referred to them to someone as "if the flaming lips were neil young's backing band."

The weird thing about jokes is they're supposed to be funny.
