I mean, they used to be a really damn good rock band.
You CANNOT SCREW WITH:
Toys In the Attic or Rocks.

I miss that band.

But, I suppose that you can say the same about The Rolling Stones.
And at least we have those old records.

I can still get into Pump actually. Get a Grip was the shark-jumper for me.

Their later stuff has really ruined their entire output for me. I sold my Pandora's Box set awhile ago.

It kinda did for me, too, which I why I made this thread.
Sharon bought that original "Greatest Hits" collection at a garage sale. I brought it with me today and it reminded me why I loved them so much once upon a time.

I say: revisit the old stuff and you might be able to appreciate it again. It still holds its own as great just, plain rock!

yeah, they were rock heroes to me as kid. i saw them once, circa the release of double-live bootleg (80-81?) and i easily can say that was the loudest concert i've ever been to so far.

They were probably my favorite band around 8th grade. I even liked Get a Grip at the time. The old stuff is still great, though. For the once in a blue moon I listen to it.

I was enough of a fan in '75 to make my own Aerosmith shirt, but Draw The Line really, uh, drew the line. Even at their best they were only good for about 2 or 3 songs per album, surrounded by a lot of cringe-inducing cock rock cliches - and since Draw The Line (and, not coincidentally, since I hit my late teens) they're been pretty unbearable.

I agree with your entire post, except the one phrase I quoted here. Okay, well, I agree with it for a lot of their albums, but...
what songs in this tracklisting fit the category of "Cringe-Inducing Rock Cliches"?:

Toys in The Attic
•Toys in the Attic
•Uncle Salty
•Adam's Apple
•Walk This Way
•Big Ten Inch Record
•Sweet Emotion
•No More No More
•Round and Round
•You See Me Crying
And you have to eliminate the effect of overplay, because that is not their doing.

Maybe "Big Ten-Inch Record"; but that was never meant to be more than a silly little song, and it's not even their composition. Everything else on there is pure rock goodness.

I need to re-buy that album!

Toys In The Attic is without a doubt their best album IMO - but I can pare that song list down like so:

Although I admit that I like "Adam's Apple" a lot. But it's still based on a really shitty single entendre, so it gets tossed in the cock rock cliche pile.

Honestly, I can't even remember "Uncle Salty". It could be a polka for all I know.

DumpJack, I'm glad you found room for a couple of those Night In The Ruts tracks. They ooze sleeze and excess (especially Bone To Bone and Three Mile Smile).

I also agree that Aerosmith jumped the shark (again) with releasing 3 ballads in a row from Get A Grip (and those videos, oh those videos).

Aerosmith is well beyond the point of "breaking up." Only retirement or death is left for them.

i don't hate Aerosmith, but it sure is weird to see "back in the saddle" number one on that list. I hate that song so much.

It's not "number 1", that's from the Aerosmith mix I did last year for the board. But it's also really great, hence it was my leadoff.

I don't think you can; even the worst atrocities committed by The Stones (and there have been quite a few) can't match the love-theme-from-an-action-movie lowest common denominator horseshit that Aerosmith has cranked out in recent years. And I say that as someone who actually digs some later era Aerosmith (especially "The Other Side" even though that song is now almost 20 years old. sigh.)
