from the Relapse Message Board...AWESOME!
quick background: there have been websites popping up all over revolving around NIN's newest album, which is conceptual in nature and primarily about some kind of dystopian, police state future. these websites are kind of like games, you can find all sorts of secret shit buried in them and then uncover new websites, mp3s, video, and etc.
one website directed LA citizens to a location that was only vaguely described, but familiar to the locals. they were told to go to this location and look for a black van. sure enough, some people showed up, found the black van, and upon knocking on its back door were handed a metal box that contained the usual: stickers, tshirts, patches, posters, and etc. Some people, however, found cell phones and a note in their box. The note basically stated "there's only 100 minutes on this cell phone. don't use it or you might not have it when you need it. you'll get a call soon."
everybody's phone rang the other night and they were instructed to meet up at a certain location, turned out to be some kind of old warehouse. upon arriving there was someobody there who held a sort of informal meeting, basically about politics and resistance (to this apparently coming dictatorship). after the meeting he told them that there was something in the basement that they needed to see. he led these 30 or so people down an elevator into a pitch black room. once they got down there Nine Inch Nails started playing a show, which is badass enough in itself, right?
it gets better, they play some songs and then, right when things seem perfect, the electricity is pulled and a SWAT team raids the concert, "kills" the band members and drives the audience out of the basement, "arresting" some.
the best part about it all? one of those NIN websites has posted video of the whole thing, which you can find here.
this may be the most brilliant marketing campaign ever, but what's cool about it is that it's fucking enjoyable as all get out for the fans and not just a marketing campaign in the traditional sense. i hope more shit like this happens around the country.

go here and then click on the "Meeting raided. Rescued footage here." link. it's about 40 mins in length and features good quality video and great audio of "The Beginning of the End" and "Survivalism" as well as "Last, March of the Pigs, We're In This Together Now, and The Frail."
