Maggie Gyllenhaal was adorable. Good movie, too.

That makes two movies where Maggie has managed to make me very happy although my favorite line was...."I don't need nicotine patches, I smoke cigarettes," by Emma.

Awesome.

& ayah is correct: Thompson's performance went totally under the radar. Prolly should have gotten a best supporting nom, at least.

(Also, her ass't, Penny -- did that character (as portrayed by Queen Latifah) strike anyone the same as Virginia Madsen's angel in A Prairie Home Companion?)

Yes. My wife and I haven't made it to too many movies since we had our first kid awhile back, but this was one we did see and I really enjoyed it - saw it twice, in fact.

i just watched this about an hour ago. i'm not a will ferrell fan, but he was actually quite ok with this role. at first i kept thinking of adaptation and maybe that's why i still thought this screamed of a charlie kaufman script. i liked it, though.

my one real gripe was the end - the bus would've been slowing down for the bus stop and, hence, would've been traveling maybe 2 mph by the point of impact. also, the driver sobbed that she didn't see him, but there were at least 2 other people out in the middle of the street as the bus was approaching. so i guess she was just a bad driver. geez... it kills me when things that shouldn't happen affect a plot so much.

I don't know how we all did this, but I too just watched this this weekend. Strange things afoot on the Obner. Surprisingly great movie.

Just watched this. The bit i didn't get that kinda spoiled it for me is why Dustin Hoffman and others were praising this novel as being a landmark piece of modern literature; the most important thing written in years bla bla bla, when the book itself seemed quite shitty and boring even by anyone's standards.

But damn if Hoffman don't look pretty good for 70.
