OASIS PLAN GARDEN PARTY

OASIS are to play a huge NEW YORK date, NME.COM can exclusively reveal.

The band, who will tour the UK in June and July, will also play at the New York Madison Square Garden on June 22. Support at the show will come from Jet.

Tickets go on sale on February 12.

The band’s as-yet-untitled LP will hit the shops on May 16 and features 12 songs written by Noel, singer Liam guitarist Gem Archer and bassist Andy Bell.

Noel Gallagher said: "The finished album is my favourite one of the last four. Because we're all contributing to the songwriting there's a different feel to it. In fact the only songs that sound like Oasis are Andy Bell's funnily enough.

"I've been listening to a lot of Bob Dylan last year, Liam was obviously some guy who used to be in a band in Liverpool, Gem's a very rock and roll but not in a Jet way if you know what I mean. Andy's just sound like Oasis, which is great."

Oasis will head out on a UK stadium tour in the summer, having sold over 330,000 tickets for the dates. The shows are Glasgow Hampden Park (June 29), City Of Manchester Stadium (30, July 2-3), Southampton Rose Bowl Stadium (6) and Milton Keynes National Bowl (9-10).

Noel said that the group have "bagged some magnificent support bands" for the tour, though did not reveal the exact names.

didn't they have to cancel that one tour (with the recently reformed Black Crowes - way to bow out with dignity fellas) because nobody was buying tickets? and that was in mostly mid-sized venues...

I loved those first two albums with some great B-sides from that time as well, but MSG? I just can’t see that many people wanting to see them right now because those last three albums were such a bore.

Be Here Now was decent. However, on SOTSOG it sounded like they focused more on creating a hip new sound than actual songwriting.

Nothing will top What’s The Story Morning Glory. The Masterplan was a good collection of tunes too. I still haven’t heard their first album, which is pretty pathetic for a so-called Oasis fan.

This is like the Verve booking Red Rocks, which would have been great especially with Massive Attack opening. elephantstone remembers this all too well. *sigh*

The Masterplan is a bit of the collection of B-sides I was talking about. They however missed so many great songs like: “Whatever,” “(I Got) The Fever” and “Step Out.”

Not even sure if Heathen Chemistry even sold well in the UK and was their last album.

Wasn't Andy Bell married to Idha at one point? I'm cool with her.

"I think the fact that Green Day ripped off the chord progression from 'Wonderwall' for their new 'hit' single is probably going to generate a lot of renewed interest in Oasis. And since Noel said that he's been listening to a lot of Bob Dylan, I'm sure the new record will have some really cool rip offs from songs like 'Positively 4th Street'. . .and shit.", said Trevor with a snide smile on his face.

. . .but, to be honest, I've always rather enjoyed Oasis in the same way I've enjoyed professional wrestling - you can't really take it seriously, but, it can make you laugh if you open yourself up for it. I'd go to one of their shows. . .

yes, they do have a huge fan base here in the states still, and yes, the MSG gig will be rammed or even sold out.

i'm looking forward to hearing the new material and checking out the tour.

A little over a week ago Green Day released a remix to radio of "Boulevard Of Broken Dreams" with "Wonderwal"l mixed into it, so I guess they're trying to make their plagiarism be hip. It's billed as "Green Day With Oasis" even though Oasis didn't actually record anything new for it. It'll help Oasis get more known with 15 year old North American kids, probably.

Now if we can address why Manic Street Preachers and Super Furry Animals never took off in the States, I'd feel like I was back on the Q magazine board before it went all to shit.

I still dig Oasis. I bought Heathen Chemistry shortlay after seeing them at the massive Finsbury Park show in London. The show was good but Oasis fans in the UK what Kid Rock fans are in the US. Of course it appears that Philadelphia is the closest Oasis will be coming to the ATL. Might consider flying up to NYC.

I saw em do two sold out shows at radio city music hall on the last tour 3 years back....they were great......MSG may be stretching it a bit...but hey, if they were given a noffer to play that room, why not take it...theyll get their BIG $$ whether they sell 8k tix or sell the bitch out!

Here's how this can work (Oasis playing large-ass venues):

1. They have Jet (who are all over the radio) as an opener, which will sell some tickets.
2. In Chicago, NYC, and Boston, there are tons of expat Brits and Europeans who will buy tickets. Tons.

I'm sure it's the same in LA, but I always find it funny to go see bands like Charlatans, Stereophonics, or Supergrass here in NY, because I feel like I'm the only American in the room. It's kind of amusing.

I just bought tickets to the Oasis gig this morning. They'll never top their first 2 records, but they're still a great live act.

I lost interest a little with each album after (What's the Story) Morning Glory? (that discs holds lots of middle/high school memories), but I would definitely still go.

I heard this almost every morning for three weeks straight. I like both Oasis and Green Day, but it is probably my least favorite song of the year, and it's stopped me from buting "American Idiot" so far...

Lovely first two albums. Fond memories of a quite different time in my life. Have no interest in seeing them.
