I had a picnic with my family and some friends over the weekend, and ticks, those little bastards were everywhere! Thankfully, nobody got any actually attached to them, but we were flicking them off of our clothing the whole damn time.

We ate and got out of there in a hurry.

Normally, it's the mosquitoes that are an issue, but for some reason these are the parisites du jour.

How are the bugs by you? Same issues? Better? Worse?

Damn.

Currently I live on the Elizabeth River, so the mosquitos in the summer are pretty rough. I live fairly near some swamps and what not too. THey're not too bad though, at least not until late July and August.

My folks live way out in the country though. My mom has horses, dogs, cats, etc. and so ticks were a regular part of our lives as children. I am pretty accustomed to taking ticks out of me. Gotta make sure to grab by the neck/head or else that head will stay in ya. :)

I don't mind ticks. Spiders on the other hand, I hate those fuckers.

No bugs out yet - it just snowed a week or two ago.

Check your taint for ticks. Don't ask me why. Trust Squirrgle.

The last time I was hiking I found a tick on my camera after I'd sat down on some grass for a rest.

I got a bad mosquito bite last summer that stayed red and swollen for quite a while but it's cleared up now.

The worst things are what we call cleggs, sort of a large horsefly. When I got a bite from one of them a while back the bite turned purple and swoll up into a big plum type cist. I had to get it lanced at hospital which wasn't much fun.

Oh and when the doctor says "look away" you really should do since that means he's about to slice a part of your arm off with a serated scapel.

Darrin,

We have loads of horseflies out by my folks house. I have seen a few that are 2-2.5 inches long. Those bastards draw blood when they bite. I'd rather get hit in the face with a yellow skinny wiffle ball bat by Hulk Hogan than get bit by those things.

It was three years ago for us the the cicadas were extremely bad. It was one of those every 17 year cycles and for about a month it sounded like a damn jungle outside. And when they all started to die the little bastards were all over the place. You practically couldn't walk around without stepping on a dead cicada. Blegh.

But more recently the bees have started to reappear around here, and with a vengence. No wonder though since its supposed to reach a high of 87 degrees here. Current temp = 80 degrees.

i don't mind the ticks

pick em off... light em up... or just tear off their legs

fun little guys

sometimes ill get one for a day or two
and start to get a headache
and a sore neck
then you just have to scratch around till you find the bump

good times

I don't like Ticks, but I do love The Tick and am sad that the took the lovable blue guy of the T.V. Still the best cartoon I've ever seen

after my second diagnosis of Lyme, I've been a little suspicious of the ticks.
