from CNN:
Famed Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and author David Halberstam has died in a car crash in the San Francisco Bay Area, the San Mateo County coroner’s office confirms

This probably affects me, and Bloor. The rest of you feel free to chime in with "Who?" and "I like Howard Zinn's work better"

MOTHERFUCKER!!

The Fifties is the most entertaining (and informative) book I've read in the last couple years; this guy is a fucking titan.

Damn, damn, damn.

Sometimes it seems pretty obvious.

Also, way to dodge not knowing who he is, or having read his books, with a defensive comment..sorry I stole your thunder by already trotting out Howard Zinn ;)

I've got a couple of his books, & was lucky to be able to interview him for my college paper back in '84. I wish I would've known more about him at the time...I look back at it now as a real missed opportunity.
