Finally did it last night. I should have told the other Chicagbners. Oh well. It was really awesome. Fun even when you don't know the singer. I did Elvis Costello's "Radio Radio".

There's a band called Shithook that does this at Duffy's here in Lincoln. I would do it more frequently and attend it if it wasn't like regular karaoke nights and the same people sing the same song each week.

This was pretty punk rock. People did The Jam, Dead Boys, Sweet, Violent Femmes (and not "Blister in the Sun"). No idea if they do the same songs every week, of course, since this was my first time.

People around here prefer to sing AC/DC, Cheap Trick, Janis Joplin, a little Johnny Cash, but mostly 70's Hard Rock. The only punk song I can remember hearing is with Anarchy in the UK. The Chicago version of Live Band karaoke is clearly much cooler, which isn't a real shocker.

Someone did "Highway to Hell" last night, but I don't think there's any problem with the four bands you just mentioned, unless your point was that those are the best they do.

The Chicago one is at several different venues on different nights of the week and I expect different venues pull in different crowds that therefore do different songs.

The Gomers have been doing this here for years, and they're really fucking good at it.

I went one night with relatives, maybe 6 months ago. It was creepy old hippies rolling around onstage singing Jefferson Starship and shit.

<--- was disappointed.

gott DAMN. I'll bet it made the band's night. The night I went, it was just ... odd. Not one person actually had a decent voice, and not one person did a good-faith effort on a song. It was all either mousy and timid and "where's the beat" or it was someone trying to do performance art. Both suck to watch.

Well yeah. But that's like bragging about beating up kindergartners.

They used to do that in LA with only punk songs and the band featured members of the Circle Jerks, Agent Orange, Bad Religion and NOFX

Never went but it sounded like it could be either pretty cool or a train wreck.

Are you joking with me or did you think I lived in Omaha or the outer regions of this state?
