I have been on this insane kick of comic books, wrestling, and nin.
I'm pretty excited for the new record, although I was'nt a fan of The Fragile and figured it would be the demise of Trent Reznor's career.
The more I read about the new record, it sounds like it will be as heavy as Broken...one could only hope.

My comic book buying is now outshining my cd purchases...as of late.

The Fragile is my favorite NIN album. Maybe it's because it doesn't remind of of high school.

I still think The Fragile is decent.

I am glad to hear that Reznor is stepping away from the self-indulgent The Fragile. Most of it can't compare to his earlier stuff. If I remember correctly the first disc is nearly completely without merit...I'm going to dig this out again and give it another listen though.

My worst fear is that it'll turn out to be a mechanical A Perfect Circle album....

I heard he eschewed delicate melodic instrumentals, so it'll definitely not be a sequel to The Fragile which is too bad, 'cause I really liked it.

Who cares, I know I'll love it.

One thing I noticed is that he tries to do something different with every album. So I doubt it'll be Broken 2. Or Son of Broken. Or whatever you want to call it.

I would faint if it was anywhere near as good as Broken though.

Reznor should do an entire NIN album with just an 808 kit and a harp filtered through a lo-fi compressor. Yes, the entire album should be like that. Also, he's allowed to shout random bullshit in the middle of a song like Nitzer Ebb if the mood should strike him.

He released material after 'Pretty Hate Machine'? JK...)

That was the beginning and pinnacle for me in regards to NIN. He will never top that CD.

"downward spiral" is my fav. "the fragile" is good, but overextended. i hope he finds focus on this new one PLUS tries something different ... he's more than cornered the market on his sound.

He's got Aaron North (Icarus Line) playing guitar for him...That guy is known more for Buddyhead, antics, and crashing into stuff onstage than for his precision...

It might be an interesting live show, but also might not translate well onto tape...

Whatever he doesn't like, Trent will play for himself anyway, so studio-wise I never really think about who is in there anymore.

On the road however, that could be interesting.

I've been reading a lot of really good stories as of late

Nightwing - Year One
Superman - For Tomorrow
Batman/Superman - Absolute Power (very cool idea. What if Superman and Batman were villains?!!)
Deadshot
Batman - Legend of the Dark Knight
Avengers - The New Avengers
Spiderman - Marvel Knight
Green Lantern - REBIRTH
I also just finished reading Batman - Hush for the first time. Kick ass book!!
just to name a few

Oh, you so emo.

(Kidding.)

I just recall, when the Fragile hit shelves in late fall '99 -- by the way, for that store-date, wasn't nin tv part of a week-long trl new release madness series at that time (rage tv (for battle of la), dre tv (for 2001), beck tv (maybe? midnite vultures?)) -- that one of my then good friends, who had always had some inkling for mechanized rock (Ministry, Lard, KMFDM) but hadn't seemed to be so into of late (by '99, he was more into Man or Astro*man?, Promise Ring, Rufus Wainwright, Elliot Smith, Jets to Brazil), getting all hep for the new Reznor disc (which was the Chinesse Democracy of its day... though I suppose 2001 could vie for that too) because a chubby-but-rather-cute, bespectacled, bisexual (maybe just not picky?) indie-rock fangirl from his college, and with whom he was trying to get, was all into Reznor, on the side. (She was more a Braid-Get Up Kids-etc. kid. Though not kid, really, since she was eighteen or nineteen.)

It was just weird. How do those indie-emotive rockers choose their non-indie-emotive heroes? What thread runs from Lou Reed to Robert Smith to Trent Reznor to Rivers Cuomo? What gives?

There's a new issue of one of the Superman comics that looked pretty decent. It has some dude on the cover who looks sorta like Baron Karza from the Micronauts and you find out who he actually is at the end. It's pretty sweet.
