ATO SIGNS CROWDED HOUSE

JULY 10 NORTH AMERICAN RELEASE DATE FOR CROWDED HOUSE'S "TIME ON EARTH"

COACHELLA PERFORMANCE IS BAND'S FIRST U.S. SHOW SINCE 1996

ATO Records has set July 10 as the North American release date for Crowded House's "Time On Earth." It's the band's first new studio album in 14 years, and features original, founding members Neil Finn and Nick Seymour, along with former member Mark Hart and new drummer Matt Sherrod. "Time on Earth" is the band's first studio record since 1993's "Together Alone." The band's most recent release is a DVD of their farewell show from 1996 at the Sydney Opera House in front of 120,000 fans, entitled "Farewell to the World." Crowded House will debut the new line up and material in America for the first time since 1996 at the Coachella Festival. Further tour dates will be announced soon.

"Time On Earth" was recorded at Roundhead Studios, Auckland, NZ, RAK Studios, London, and Real World Studios, Bath, and was produced by Ethan Johns (Kings Of Leon, Ryan Adams) and Steve Lillywhite (U2, Morrissey). Guitar legend Johnny Marr features on two tracks, lead-off single "Don't Stop Now" and "Even A Child," a song he co-wrote with Neil Finn. Another album track, "Silent House," was co-written by Finn and the Dixie Chicks, whose own version of the song appears on their Grammy Award-winning album "Taking the Long Way."

Crowded House formed in Melbourne, Australia, in 1985 and first tasted global success with their massive 1987 hit "Don't Dream It's Over." They continued to have hits for a decade, including "Something So Strong," "Weather With You" and "It's Only Natural." "Don't Dream It's Over" hit #2 on the American Top 40 and won the band Best New Artist at that year's MTV Music Awards, while "Something" reached the #7 spot. They produced four studio albums and a best-of compilation.

Subsequently, Neil Finn forged a successful solo career, releasing two albums under his own name and two as The Finn Brothers with his brother Tim, 1996's "Finn" and 2004's "Everyone Is Here."

Paul Hester, Crowded House's original drummer, tragically passed away in 2005. "Time On Earth" is dedicated to his memory.

About the reunion, Finn says: "It feels right to us that the band should re-emerge at this time and we look forward to reconnecting with the audience that we established and for whom we still hold a deep respect. We aim to make the upcoming shows and the new music as vital and spirited as what has come before."

1. Nobody Wants To

Ditto.

And yet I'd probably never buy a solo Finn album. I guess the reason this is happening is because of people like me.

I always wanted to hear those Finn solo albums but never put any effort in at seeking them out either.

Can anyone could post a song or two from this new one?

Just curious, but why? One All (or One Nil, depending on where you live) is seriously great, as is Try Whistling This. Ignore the name above the titles and they're just two more Crowded House albums that logically follow on from Together Alone. The only really significantly recognizable feature in the band was Neil's voice, anyway. From what I understand, the upcoming CH album started out life as another solo album and became a CH album when he got the other living guys involved.

And don't miss Neil's 7 Worlds Collide concert DVD. I ripped the audio and it's one of my most-listened to things. Absolutely love it. (The CD strips out a number of must-have songs.)
