Today I was asked to do a phone interview tomorrow for a job I applied to pretty much on a lark, but would totally love.

Now the idea of possibly getting a new job is hitting me and it's kind of weird. I've been here almost 7 years, pay is great and the people and schedule are amazing.

Plus, I've forgotten all job interviewing techniques and do's and don'ts.

This will be interesting.

Had the phone interview today and it went REALLY well. Next step is they send me a copy of the paper to critique and if they like that I come in for a daylong interview.
This is getting somewhat exciting. Any good vibes would be welcome. I'll let you all know what happens.

Undoubtedly. We're a good bunch of people, I'd say.

And thanks, D.

That's awesome news, Chad. You'll knock em dead. Unless, of course, you go my route whence critiquing: Get half drunk and write, in red wax pencil "DIS NOCK GOOG" and then wipe up your vomit with the rest of the pages.

Same area, or are we talking relocation.

Also, Femgar got put in for a promotion to communications director for her brand or somesuch. She kicks ass.

As far as random observations go: Politics is SO much more interesting from a legislative perspective than a campaign perspective. Personality and seniority are interesting beasts.

It's a full-time gig as the staff advisor/mentor for The State News, the college paper at Michigan State. It'd be a 45-minute commute, so I could stay here till my lease is up in Dec. and look for a closer place in the mean time.

It's an awesome gig that kind of found me by chance. It's weird since that's my old college paper (31,000 circ/5 days a week) and I was on the fence about possibly going back there as a professional. But they just moved into an immaculate new facility, have amazing resources and a big staff to help mold.

My best friend (who I met at the paper) said I should just roll into town, grab a paper, grab a pitcher at the paper's unofficial bar and do the critique right there. "'Cept the beer stains might be viewed as kind of a negative."
True.

Best of luck to the wifey on her pursuits. Big pay bump? More prestige? Cowering minions?

Traveling salesman just got me at work! Well, kind of.

I wish it were for a vacuum cleaner, but they were doing promotion for the Sharper Image catalog and wanted me to buy a phone that speaks the number on the caller ID!!

I said no.

- my eyes are green today (they're hazel, and change between blue and green dependent on what I'm wearing)

- I love coming home to the scent of fresh flowers... I heart Trader Joe's bouquets.

- I'm totally digging this song today... hadn't heard it in a while... makes me want to sway, close my eyes and let the sound wash over me.

Peter Murphy - Give What He's Got

- I got a theme going today... amber lotion and amber jewelry.

- It's beautiful outside.

- I got invited to go dancing tonight... I can't tell you the last time I went dancing. Of course, it will be 80s dance music, because what else would a 36 year old woman be dancing to???? ;)

- my friend wants to take me to pole dancing class for my birthday... I'm not sure how I feel about that.

I blame Dana for this. She started this thread.

weird conversation overhead in the lunchroom about 5 minutes ago:

what exactly is a cocktail party? When you say you're having a cocktail party, does that mean people are supposed to dress up? If you don't dress up, doesn't that just make it an "open house?"

Overheard 4 women talking about this, and thought to myself, "Jesus, you girls are high-maintenance. This is fucking Portland for god's sake!"

- this past Friday night... I came home after a late night out, and when I got out of my car, it was completely quiet except for the sound of the wind blowing through the trees. I closed my eyes and just absorbed the moment. It's things like this I should always remember.

- my sister is amazing. Bob knows this already.

- I'm always amazed by the power of positive thinking and physical endurance... finished my metric century (62 miles) in less than four hours yesterday, averaging 16 mph. I'm kinda tired today, but not sore. Even though I've done it before, it felt like a real accomplishment after a winter of disappointments.

- again, "someone great" by lcd soundsystem is a fucking great song.

edit: AND I just found out a friend of mine is gonna give me a swingin' deal on a new Selle Italia saddle for my bike... thank GOD for friends!

Oddly enough, I have the same problem but in the opposite direction. Crushing, brutal hangovers via Jack and Coke whereas after nearly everything else I have a slight malaise.

Must be a Portland thing....I was in the town over the weekend and drank a bunch of whiskey cokes with no problems on Saturday Night/Sunday AM but for some reason 4 beers over about 3 hours gave me a raging headache on Saturday morning.

you're right, rod, this isn't right.... dumb question: were you drinking water during these moments? Water helps immensely when you get to be our age. I drank rum and cokes all night Friday, but I think I sweated most of it out while dancing. btw, another observation... DANCING IS FUN.

come on folks... only one last day in 4/07 to make observations before I create an annoying 5/07 version.

While you were doing that, I was choking on cauliflower. How odd.

I'm blaming this on you. Just because I can.
